Lehigh Takes First Place at Lafayette 7-Way Invitational

EASTON, Pa. – The Lehigh men's track and field team collected 254 team points on Saturday to take home first place at the Lafayette 7-Way Invitational. Lehigh landed 24 athletes on the podium at the meet including 11 individual winners and added seven runner-up performances. On Friday, the Mountain Hawks also had several distance runners compete at the Raleigh Relays, hosted by North Carolina State.
Lehigh powered through the 1500 meter run at the 7-Way, taking the top five spots in the race to earn 30 out of a possible 31 team points in the event. Freshman David Fletcher led the way by crossing the line first in 4:01.60, followed by Mitchell Daddario (PR-4:03.22) in second and Christopher Mascetti (4:03.56) in third. Freshman Ryan Paradise placed fourth and David Mugavero rounded out the top five.
Junior Michael Camera bested the field of eight to win the 100m dash in 11.34 seconds, senior Christopher Del Rossi took the top prize in the 200 meter dash, and Joe Espinal (48.77) captured first in the 400m dash. Fletcher ran the 800m in 1:59.62 to finish second overall, Paradise finished nearly half a second behind to claim third place and Bartlomiej Bancewicz scored team points in fourth.
Junior Joseph Inglis led the way in 3,000m steeplechase with his winning time of 9:44.87. Junior Henry Paul (15:29.69) bested the field of 11 runners to take home first place in the 5K, with senior Kyle Leonard (15:47.94) crossing the finish line second overall.
In the 110m hurdles, freshman Kyle Sult finished second overall in 16.59 seconds, and senior Tom Troxell took first in the 400m hurdles (58.21).
Lucas Warning and Christopher Foley finished atop the field of the shot put, with Warning taking first at 17.41 meters, and Foley finishing second (15.21m). Freshman Kyle Sult earned the victory in the javelin throw with his toss of 53.19 meters. Freshman Adam Freesman earned six team points for his third place finish in the discus (30.36m), and later scored points with his fifth place finish in the hammer throw.
In the vault, freshman Joey Kelly took runner-up in the pole vault, just ahead of Max Jordan in third place. Lehigh featured sophomore Ryan Givens (6.68m) and senior Daniel Reichenbach (6.63m) in the long jump, with both landing on the podium in second and third, respectively. Junior Fritz Isaac won the triple jump at 13.05m, where freshman Oluwajuwon Owolabi landed on the podium in third.
Lehigh also earned nine team points by tying for first with Lafayette in the 4x100 meter relay.
Lehigh also had several athletes compete over the weekend in Raleigh, where grad student Evan Hardy leading the way in 35th place of the 10K in 30:12.95. Senior Alexander Fitzgerald set a new personal record in 36th place (30:17.21), followed by Patrick Reilly in 39th (30:23.41) and Sean Burke in 42nd (PR-30:31.50).
Lehigh has one meet on the schedule next weekend in the Muhlenberg Spring Invitational on Saturday, April 1.
