LOS ANGELSES, Calif. – The Mountain Hawks continued their West Coast swing on Tuesday with a 7-0 loss at No. 7 Southern California. Lehigh is now 2-8 on the season, while the Trojans improve to 14-2 and 11-0 on their home courts at Marks Stadium.
USC began by earning the necessary two victories in the doubles competition to clinch the doubles point for the team. The Trojan pairing of Nick Crystal and David Laser picked up the first win by defeating Ethan Bogard and Colin Nardella, 6-3, at flight No. 3. The 19th-ranked duo of Brandon Holt and Riley Smith sealed the doubles point for USC with a 6-2 victory over George Cooper and Graham Lehman. Play was suspended at flight No. 2 with USC leading 5-2.
The Trojans continued to roll as the singles competition got underway and scored victories at fifth, third and fourth singles, only surrendering one game to Lehigh in the three flights. Jack Petersen fell at No. 2 singles to Thibault Forget by a score of 6-2, 6-2, while Cooper dropped a 6-0, 6-4 decision to No. 45 Logan Smith at the top flight. Dylan Karchere-Sun closed things out with a 6-2, 6-4 loss to Jens Sweaney at the sixth spot.
The Mountain Hawks will close out their California spring break trip on Wednesday against No. 7 Carnegie Mellon (Division III) in a neutral site contest at Pomona-Pitzer.
