BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Coming off an impressive win over Bucknell on Wednesday evening, the Lehigh men's basketball team hits the road on Sunday for a nationally-televised showdown against Holy Cross. Opening tipoff is set for 12 p.m. on CBS Sports Network. The Mountain Hawks earned their regular season sweep over the first-place Bison, leading for more than 32 minutes and holding off several Bucknell charges.
Â
Lehigh was led by seniors Austin Price and Tim Kempton, who both eclipsed 20 points in the same game for the fourth time in their careers, one of those time coming in Lehigh's last meeting at Holy Cross last Jan. 16 (an 87-66 win). Against Bucknell, Price finished with a season-high 25 points, shooting 5-of-9 from three-point range, including a pair trey in the final minute which gave the Mountain Hawks a 72-67 lead. Eighteen of his points came in the second half while he also tied a season high with six rebounds. In the process, Price moved from 18th all the way to 15th place in school history for career points (currently 1,331), passing Charlie Brown, Bill Griffin and Mackey McKnight.
Â
Meanwhile, Kempton recorded 24 points and 11 boards for his second straight double-double, 14th of the season and 47th of his career. He also eclipsed 1,000 career rebounds, becoming just the second player in school history and third in Patriot League history to reach that plateau. He currently owns 1,005 rebounds and is just eight from Daren Queenan's career record of 1,013.
Â
Sophomore Kyle Leufroy added 14 points on Wednesday, all coming in the first half. He finished the game 5-of-7 from the field, including 2-of-3 from three-point range. The Mountain Hawks shot 53.3 percent as a team in the first half. Lehigh shot just 34.5 percent in the second half, but held Bucknell to 32.4 percent over the final 20 minutes. Lehigh did shoot 47.4 percent from three-point range for the game, knocking down 9-of-19 from long range, upping its season total to 40.0 percent as a team (199-of-498).
Â
The Mountain Hawks used a 13-0 second-half run to take a 12-point lead. Bucknell eventually tied the score, but freshman Jordan Cohen hit a clutch jumper with time winding down on the shot clock, giving Lehigh a 69-67 lead with 2:25 remaining. That led into the big Price trey, then the Mountain Hawks hit 7-of-8 free throws down the stretch to wrap up the regular season sweep, Lehigh's first regular season sweep of Bucknell since 2008. Overall, the Mountain Hawks have won eight times in their last 12 tries against the Bison.
