BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh head men's basketball coach Brett Reed announced on Wednesday the addition of Joe Foley to the Mountain Hawks' incoming class. A point/combo guard out of Northern California, Foley joins Jeameril Wilson and Nic Lynch, who will enter Lehigh next fall.
Â
"I am very pleased to have Joe join our program," said Reed. "He's a good-sized guard. He has the ability to create off the dribble and shoot the basketball from the perimeter. I also like that he has a solid sense and feel for the game. He knows how to distribute, when to distribute and how to manage a game. Those attributes, being attributed to a point guard in a body that's a little bit bigger, could allow him to help us in a variety of different ways throughout the course of his career."
Â
Foley has been the starting varsity point guard since his freshman year (at Woodberry Forest School in Virginia as a freshman and sophomore under coach Craig Dawson, and Menlo School as a junior and senior under coach Keith Larsen). Last year, Foley led Menlo to a 13-1 regular-season record along with WBAL and CCS Championships. He was also voted MVP of the league (MVP All-West Bay League 2016-17). Foley led the team, and league, in scoring, averaging 17.3 points per game along with 3.4 assists and 3.7 rebounds while shooting 49 percent from the floor. Included was a 40-point effort in a league game.
Â
Foley has continued his success this season, leading Menlo to a 4-0 record to begin the year while serving as the leading scorer (averaging approximately 20 points per game).
Â
Foley also played AAU basketball for Team Loaded out of Richmond, Va. under coach Brandon Jones, helping them reach the finals of the Adidas Summer Championships tournament in 2015. After moving to California, he played for Tyler Johnson Elite under coach Jamon Osby as starting point guard, playing alongside three other Division I commits.
