COLUMBUS, Ohio – Lehigh swimmers Meghan Thompson and Payton Miles completed their Winter National Championships debuts Thursday at Ohio State's McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.
 
Thompson was first up for the Mountain Hawk duo as Day 2 kicked off with the 500 freestyle. The senior qualified for the event with a time of 4:48.67 and posted a mark of 4:53.36 to advance to the C Final in the evening session.
 
In the evening session, Thompson improved on her preliminary pace with a time of 4:52.11 to finish seventh in her heat. Her finals' time is also a personal best so far this season.
 
Miles took to the pool for her Winter Nationals debut in the 50 freestyle. The defending Patriot League 50 free champion entered preliminary heat six with a time of 22.80. In her first appearance on the national stage, the sophomore posted a time of 23.48 in her preliminary sprint. Her time is a personal best so far this season, but was 0.31 seconds off the qualifying pace for one of the three finals heats.
 
Miles wrapped up her stint at the Winter Nationals with her appearance in the 50 freestyle. Thompson will return to action Saturday as she represents Lehigh and the Patriot League on the national stage in the 1650 freestyle.
