
Thompson, Miles Set for Winter Nationals

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh swimmers Meghan Thompson and Payton Miles will compete for short-course national titles as they represent the Brown and White at USA Swimming's 2017 Winter National Championships. The event is set for Nov. 29-Dec. 2 at Ohio State University's McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.

The meet opens Wednesday, Nov. 29 with a relay-only session at 6 p.m. ET. Thursday, Nov. 30, through Saturday, Dec. 2, prelims will be held at 9 a.m. ET, followed by finals at 5 p.m. ET. Tickets are on sale now at usaswimming.org.

All sessions of the meet will be streamed online and via the NBC Sports app. NBC will air exclusive television coverage from Columbus on Sunday, Dec. 10 from noon-1 p.m. ET.

Thompson will be competing in the 500 and 1650 freestyle events, while Miles will compete in the 50 freestyle. Both swimmers qualified for their events at the 2017 Patriot League Championships while capturing league titles and All-League honors in the process. Thompson and Miles are the only Patriot League swimmers entered in each of their respected events at the Winter National Championships.

Both swimmers will be in the pool Thursday, beginning with Thompson in the 500 freestyle, followed by Miles in the 50 freestyle later in the day. Thompson will return to the pool Saturday to close out her stint at the Winter Nationals with the 1650 freestyle.

On Thursday, prelims for the women's 500 freestyle is set for 9 a.m. and the women's 50 free is scheduled to start at 10:13 a.m., with the evening finals session set for a 5 p.m. start time. The women's 1650 free session is set for a 3:10 p.m. start time on Saturday.

Lehigh's Patriot League champion duo will be making their first appearances at the U.S. Winter National Championships. They join a list of six other Lehigh women who have qualified for the event. In total, 14 different Mountain Hawks have represented Lehigh at the Winter Nationals since 2011.
