Lehigh Women Defeat Loyola for Second-Straight League Win

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Mountain Hawks improve to 4-1 overall, 2-0 against Patriot League opponents and 2-0 at home with a 174-126 victory over Loyola at Jacobs Pool on Saturday. Lehigh racked up eight wins in the swimming events, including seven individual victories with one victory in the diving events.

Meghan Thompson notched the team's first victory of the day by winning the 1000 freestyle with a top time of 10:38.57. LU swept the top three sports as Tori Connolly placed second and Marissa Wagner placed third.

Lehigh also scored key points in the 200 freestyle as Courtney Ferreira won the event with a time of 1:55.11. Ann Foley placed second at a pace of 1:55.83.

The Brown and White also dominated the 100 backstroke. Rachel Rider posted the top time of 59.03, while Nicole Shek placed second and Anna Francisco came in third.

Sydney Bornstein won her fourth-straight 200 butterfly this season with a time of 2:07.55. Kate Bergin also scored points with a fourth place finish.

Payton Miles remained undefeated in the 50 freestyle with her winning time of 24.17. Evie Gieseman placed third, while Audra Smires placed fifth.

Megan Fennell posted the top score in the one-meter dive and topped her own program record mark with a score of 265.04. Rayna Smilowitz also scored team points with a third place finish. Fennell is the first Lehigh diver in over nine years to meet the standards for the NCAA Zone Qualifying Meet. Â

Foley picked up a win over he own as she placed first in the 100 freestyle with a time of 52.93. Miles placed second and Smires came in fourth.

Thompson posted her second win of the day when she placed first in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:12.76.

The Mountain Hawks capped off the day by winning the 400 freestyle relay. Julianne Koch, Smires, Foley and Miles teamed up for the winning time of 3:34.34.

Lehigh will be back in action on November 17 at home to face rival Lafayette.
