10/25/2017 9:09:00 PM | Men's Soccer
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After falling behind 2-0 in the first half, Lehigh made a furious comeback attempt in the second half, but came up short as Bucknell walked away with a 2-1 victory and its first road win of the season.
The Bison (6-7-3, 4-3-0) shocked the Mountain Hawks (10-5-1, 4-2-1) when they got on the board in the third minute. Bucknell really put Lehigh behind the eight ball when Matt Thorsheim netted his second tally of the game in the 12th minute of play.
Thorsheim stepped in front of Lehigh defender and got his foot on a Stefan Gollisz pass for the first tally. The Bucknell midfielder found himself in good position for the second goal as he knocked in a rebound following a saved shot by Ben Derleth.
After going ahead, the Bison packed it in and gave Lehigh fits for the remainder of the first half as the league's leading offense started to turn up the heat. Lehigh took a 10-5 shot advantage into the locker room with four shots on goal.
Lehigh came out with a sharpened focus to start the second half and the effort paid off as Alex Greene put the Mountain Hawks on the board in the 52nd minute. Bratislav Petkovic sent a pass in from the right to Greene who sent a shot through traffic to the back of the net for his fifth tally of the season.
After breaking the ice, the Brown and White was hungry for more, but was turned away on numerous occasions by Bucknell keeper Emmett Witmer. Lehigh out-shot the Bison 14-1 in the second half, with six shots on goal, but Witmer racked up five saves with many game-saving stops throughout the second half.
