BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Riding a three-game winning streak, the Lehigh men's basketball team heads to Navy on Wednesday to face another team that's won three straight games. Opening tipoff is set for 7 p.m. in Alumni Hall. The Mountain Hawks are coming off a big week which saw them earn an 82-71 win at Bucknell before topping Holy Cross 68-51 in a rematch of the 2016 Patriot League Championship Game.
Â
Lehigh jumped out to an early 8-0 lead against the Crusaders Saturday, Holy Cross responded to even the score and eventually take a halftime lead, but the Mountain Hawks answered in a big way in the second half. Lehigh began the second half on a 16-0 run and holding the Crusaders scoreless for the first 8:11 of the stanza. By that time, Lehigh had opened a 15-point lead. Holy Cross pulled as close as nine over the ensuing minutes, but the Mountain Hawks took a 19-point lead in the final minute, on their way to the 68-51 win.
Â
Senior Tim Kempton led the charge with 23 points and 17 rebounds. The 17 boards were just one from tying his career high, and the Stabler Arena record. Kempton scored 17 of his points in the second half, helping the Mountain Hawks outscore the Crusaders 42-24 in the second. Senior Austin Price added 13 points, which included 3-of-5 shooting from three-point range. He moved from 22nd to a tie for 19th place in school history for career points (currently 1,242). Kempton and Price also eclipsed 3,000 career points between the two of them (currently 3,001). Over his last four games, Price has knocked down 13-of-21 three-pointers (.619). Making his second-career start, freshman Pat Andree tallied nine points and four boards while sophomore Kyle Leufroy and freshman Jordan Cohen each had eight points.
Â
Lehigh's 51 points allowed marked a season best for its defense, topping the previous best of 58 against Robert Morris. Holy Cross missed its first nine field goal attempts of the second half and finished the second half at just 37.0 percent from the field (10-of-27). Lehigh dominated the boards, 40-20, as Kempton nearly outrebounded the Crusaders himself.
