PHOENIX, Md. – A solid front nine showing had the Lehigh women's golf team tied for the lead late in the final round of the Tignanelli Towson Invitational, which wrapped-up Monday at Eagles Nest Country Club. The Mountain Hawks ran into some difficulty and some unfavorable weather on the back nine, resulting in a final round 315 and a fourth place finish in the 13-team field.
Â
Lehigh finished at 39 over par 615 (300-315). Towson claimed the team title in its own tournament, shooting 310 on Monday to finish at 605 (295-310). Bethune-Cookman made a late charge, shooting 298 on Monday and finished two strokes behind the Tigers, while Lamar took third place at 612.
Â
The final score of 615 marked the lowest-ever for Lehigh in a 36-hole tournament, beating last year's 616 in the Delaware Invitational.
Â
After all five of Lehigh's scoring players shot 75 or 76 in Sunday's opening round, junior Megan Moylan carded the low round for the Mountain Hawks on Monday, a five over par 77. Moylan was just two over through 17 holes but made a triple bogey on the final hole. She tied for eighth place at 152 (75-77).
Â
Also posting a top ten finish was senior Elizabeth McGarrigle, who tied for 10th place at 153 (75-78). Like Moylan, McGarrigle ran into late trouble. She was three over through 16 before making triple bogey on the 17th.
Â
Sophomore Aileen Jeong gave Lehigh a trio of players in the top 15. Jeong shot 79 on Monday and finished at 154 (75-79).
Â
Tying for 26th place at 157 were sophomore Reagan Jahn and freshman Minuette Laessig. Jahn followed a 75 Sunday with an 82, while Laessig was the only Mountain Hawk to card two birdies on Monday. She shot 76-81 for the tournament.
Â
Competing as an individual, freshman Rebecca Markunas shot 89 in the final round, to finish in a tie for 48th place at 166 (77-89).
Â
Longwood's Courtney Tolton was the individual medalist, at four over par 148 (74-74). She posted a one-stroke victory over two players. Lamar's Elodie Chaplet led most of the way, but like most of the field, came undone on the back nine. She finished fourth.
Â
The Mountain Hawks will return to action at the Princeton Invitational, October 1-2 in New Jersey.
