BETHLEHEM, Pa. – One week after competing at the Patriot League Championships, several members of the Lehigh track and field teams will head to New Jersey for the ECAC/IC4A Championships. Nearly 25 athletes from the men's and women's squad will compete over the course of the three day meet that runs from Friday through Sunday at Princeton University.

Lehigh is scheduled to have athletes take part in five different events on Friday, beginning with Gabrielle Wardle and Sarah Cassidy in the heptathlon, which kicks off the meet at 12 p.m. Wardle is coming off three titles, including the heptathlon at the Patriot League Championships where she was named the Outstanding Field Performer of the Meet. Cassidy turned in a solid second half of the heptathlon to finish fourth overall with 4,348 points after setting PRs in the high jump, 200m and 800m.

Later on Friday, Amanda Youngblood will compete in the discus throw after earning second team all-league honors last weekend. John Tolbert will compete on the men's side in the 3,000m steeplechase, after finishing in eighth place at PLC and setting a new PR of 9:21.03 in the event at the Penn Relays. Samuel Layding also finished eighth at the PLC in the 10K, which he will compete in on Friday evening.

Five men will take to the track for Friday night's 5K, with Patrick Reilly, Alexander Fitzgerald, Ryan Cooney, Sean Burke and Evan Hardy all competing against each other. All finished in a pack with each other last weekend, with Reilly and Fitzgerald finishing eighth and ninth, followed by Cooney, Burke and Hardy in spots 11-13.

The bulk of Lehigh's female contingent will compete on Saturday, with the trials of the 1500m run, 100 and 400 hurdles, and the javelin finals. Laura Barnes and Marissa Karl will compete in the 1500m trials in hopes of advancing to Sunday's finals. Katie Hatler will compete in the 100h trials and Noreen Byrne will race in the 400h. Melody Walthers will compete in the javelin on Saturday at noon after qualifying with her fifth place PR of 41.97m last weekend.

Ryan Givens will be the lone Lehigh male to partake on Saturday, competing in the long jump. Givens earned second team all-league accolades at the PLC after setting a new PR (7.06m) and finishing second overall in the event last weekend. He will also join Adeolu Adesida on Sunday in the high jump.

On the women's side, Maura Henderson will compete in the 3K on Sunday, and Lehigh will also have a team competing in the women's 4x800 relay. The final day will also feature three high jumpers, led by Patriot League champion, Courtney Avery, runner-up and second team All-PL Wardle, and Brittany Le Jouan, who finished third at last weekend's championships to help Lehigh take a clean sweep of the podium in the event. The trio has held the top three leaps in the league throughout most of the season.

Be sure to check back to Lehighsports.com for updates and recaps of all this weekend's events. Those who sit in the top 48 in the East Region in each event after this weekend will qualify for the NCAA First Round, which will take place from May 26-28 in Jacksonville, Fla.
