
Mountain Hawks struggle in 13-6 loss at Princeton

PRINCETON, N.J. - Princeton used a three-goal run to take a 4-1 lead and the Mountain Hawks couldn't pull any closer than two the rest of the way as the Lehigh men's lacrosse team dropped a 13-6 final on Tuesday evening. Freshman long-stick midfielder Craig Chick had a monster game with career highs in groundballs (10) and caused turnovers (8), tying a Sherrerd Field record for caused turnovers. Freshman Tristan Rai led the offense with three points behind two goals and one assist. With the loss, Lehigh falls to 6-6 overall.

In his first game in exactly one month, junior Cody Triolo tied a career high with two points behind a goal and his first-career assist. Junior Ian Strain also equaled a career high in points with two behind a goal and assist. Senior Reid Weber and sophomore John Mehok scored the Mountain Hawks' other goals.
Lehigh caused all 13 of Princeton's turnovers as Chick had eight and senior Tripp Telesco recorded two, to go with three groundballs. Chick's eight caused turnovers tied the stadium mark originally set by Villanova's Brian Karalunas. Sophomore Matt Ernst won 10-of-20 faceoffs.
After a back-and-forth opening few minutes, Princeton broke the ice at the 5:42 mark of the first quarter, but Lehigh answered right back as Rai finished a rebound attempt to even the score with 5:03 on the clock.
The Tigers scored three quick goals in the second quarter in the span of 4:07 to take a 4-1 lead with 8:46 on the clock. Lehigh pulled within two at the 6:58 mark as Triolo found Mehok in front for the goal.
Princeton answered with the next four goals, posting an extra-man tally in the final minute of the second quarter then beginning the second half on a 3-0 run. Weber ended the run with a goal off a pass from senior Alex Eaton on a delayed penalty, pulling the Mountain Hawks within 8-3 with 2:37 remaining in the third quarter. Rai made it two goals in 1:03 just seconds after Princeton's penalty released, pulling Lehigh within 8-4.
A Triolo goal early in the fourth quarter pulled the Mountain Hawks within 9-5, but that's as close as they would come. Princeton answered with four of the game's final five goals to win, 13-6.
Final shots were 33-28 in favor of Lehigh while the Mountain Hawks held a 35-23 edge in groundballs. Freshman Chris Kiernan made five saves, across Princeton's Tyler Blaisdell, who made 10.
The Mountain Hawks return home for the final regular season home game on Saturday. Lehigh welcomes Cornell at 2:30 p.m. in Goodman Stadium on Community Day. It will also be Senior Day as the Mountain Hawks' 10 seniors will be recognized prior to opening faceoff. Saturday will be a Summit Series Game and a large crowd is expected with a giant inflatable for kids, and vendors on hand.
