
Lehigh heads to top-seeded Army for Patriot League Semifinals Friday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- The Lehigh women's basketball team continues its quest for the program's fourth Patriot League title Friday at 5 p.m. when the Mountain Hawks face top-seeded Army in the Patriot League Semifinals. The winner will advance to Saturday's championship game against the winner of No. 2 Bucknell/No. 3 Loyola. Both the semifinal games and the championship contest will be played at Army's Christl Arena.

Free video of the semifinals contests will be available on the Patriot League Network, while the championship game will be broadcast exclusively by CBS Sports Network. Audio coverage will be live on ESPN Radio of the Lehigh Valley.

The fourth-seeded Mountain Hawks earned a dominant 64-48 home win over No. 5 Holy Cross Monday in the quarterfinal round to punch Lehigh's ticket to the semifinals for the second-straight year. Lehigh finished regular-season league play with a 10-8 record to secure the No. 4 seed in the Patriot League Tournament.

The Mountain Hawks are led by first team All-League selection and the Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the year junior Lexi Martins. Martins leads the country with a 13.8 rebound average and is tied for first in the nation with 24 double-doubles. The Irvington, N.Y. native also leads the team with 15.2 points per game. Second team All-League sophomore Quinci Mann follows with 13.3 points per game, while third team All-League senior Kerry Kinek registers marks of 11.6 points and 8.0 rebounds per contest.

Army secured the top seed in the Patriot League Tournament thanks to its 27-2 overall record and 17-1 mark in league play. The Black Knights and second-seeded Bucknell both finished league action with 17-1 records, but Army earned the No. 1 seed when seeding came down to an RPI tiebreaker.

The Black Knights carry a 17-game winning streak into the Patriot League Semifinals. Army earned an 89-62 win over Colgate in the quarterfinal round Monday at Christl Arena. Army's only two losses came on Nov. 22 at #14/9 Duke (72-61) and on Jan. 2 at Bucknell (79-69). The Black Knights are 15-0 at home this season.

Army is led by three-time Patriot League Player of the Year Kelsey Minato who averages 23.7 points per game. Minato wrapped up the regular season leading the league in free throw percentage (86.3 percent), three-point field goal percentage (48.5 percent) and three-point field goals made per game (3.4). Second team All-Patriot League pick Aimee Oertner follows with 9.7 points and team-best 6.7 rebounds per game. Army has outscored its opponents by an average of 20.4 points per game this season and the Black Knights also hold a +7.3 rebound advantage.

Army earned a 63-39 meeting in the Patriot League opener on Dec. 30 before capturing a 69-49 win inside Stabler Arena on Feb. 27. The two teams met in the Patriot League Semifinals last season as No. 6 Lehigh upset No. 2 Army 76-57 on the road to punch its ticket to the Patriot League Championship.

Martins led Lehigh in both regular-season contests against Army with averages of 14.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per game in the two games combined. Mann followed with 10.0 points per game, while Kinek chipped in 9.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per contest. Minato averaged 21.0 points per game to lead the Black Knights, while Oertner chipped in 12.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per contest.

Army held Lehigh to a 29.9 (32-for-107) field goal percentage and 14.3 (4-for-28) three-point field goal percentage in the two games combined, while the Black Knights shot 43.9 percent (54-for-123) from the field and 40.0 percent (14-for-35) from downtown. Army held a combined +5.0 rebound margin in the two games combined.

The winner of the Lehigh-Army game will move onto Saturday's 6 p.m. championship contest. The Patriot League champion will earn the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.
