BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh men's basketball team looks to ride the momentum from a strong home win on Wednesday when the Mountain Hawks host red-hot American on Saturday at 7 p.m. The Mountain Hawks earned a 71-66 victory against Loyola, propelling them into a tie for third place (in the loss column) in the league standings. Wednesday featured a strong all-around effort, led by the starting backcourt of sophomore Kahron Ross, junior Austin Price and freshman Kyle Leufroy, who combined for 47 of Lehigh's 71 points.

Leufroy led the offense, scoring a game-high 20 points on 7-of-10 shooting, his third-career 20+ point game. Ross was stellar as well, scoring 16 points to tie a season high while adding eight assists against just two turnovers. Price scored 11 points despite battling foul trouble, including a trio of three-pointers during Lehigh's 12-0 first-half run which turned a 6-2 deficit into a 14-6 lead. The Mountain Hawks wouldn't trail the rest of the game.

Wednesday's game was much like Lehigh's other Patriot League victories. The Mountain Hawks led for most of the game, the opponent made a run in the second half, but Lehigh bounced back to close out the victory. The Mountain Hawks trailed for just 3:06 on Wednesday, leading (or tied) for the game's final 34:52. Overall in Lehigh's five league wins, the Mountain Hawks have trailed for just 3:33. Loyola pulled within a single possession late in Wednesday's game, but Lehigh always had an answer. The Mountain Hawks hit 5-of-6 free throws down the stretch to help clinch the victory.

Lehigh's forwards combined for just 22 points on the evening, but they contributed in many other ways. Junior Tim Kempton and senior Jesse Chuku each scored nine points while senior Justin Goldsborough scored four, with the trio also combining for 18 rebounds, six assists, four blocks and three steals. Kempton tallied a season-high three steals, most by either side, while Chuku had eight rebounds, three assists and two blocks to move within three blocks of 100 in his career.

With Wednesday's victory, Lehigh continued its trend of alternating wins and losses in league play. In the process, the Mountain Hawks also avenged a tough one-point loss at Loyola on Jan. 6, snapping the Greyhounds three-game winning streak. Like Loyola, American enters Stabler Arena Saturday on a winning streak, having won five in a row after an 0-6 start. Just like that, the Eagles propelled themselves up the league standings, just one half game behind the Mountain Hawks. Despite currently standing in seventh place, the Eagles are just one game out of third place. Navy stands in second at 7-4 while Colgate, Boston University and Loyola are 6-5 and Lehigh 5-5.

American struggled through nonleague action and the beginning of Patriot League play, but has been red-hot as of late. The Eagles stood at just 2-15 and 0-6 in league play following a loss at Army West Point, but have rebounded with wins at Lafayette, Navy and Colgate and home victories over Holy Cross and Bucknell. Preseason All-League honoree Jesse Reed leads the team in scoring, averaging 12.5 points per game. Delante Jones is next at 10.9 per contest while Paris Maragkos averages 8.1. Reed also leads the team in rebounding (4.0 average) and assists (47 in 22 games). The Eagles play a slower, more methodical style, scoring just 55.7 points per game (last in the Patriot League), but allowing only 64.8 (second best in the league).

Lehigh's win at American earlier this season snapped a 4-1 Eagles' stretch in the all-time series, cutting American's lead in the all-time series to 26-20. The Mountain Hawks have enjoyed strong success against American, winning four-of-five themselves from 2012-13. The two sides have played multiple times in the Patriot League Tournament, including each of Lehigh's three Patriot League Championship campaigns. Last season, American earned a 68-62 victory in the league quarterfinals in Stabler Arena.

Lehigh continues its busy five-day stretch on Monday when the Mountain Hawks head to Lafayette for a 7 p.m. tipoff. Lehigh then heads to Bucknell on Wednesday, also a 7 p.m. tip.
