Patriot League Preview

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – With the regular season in the rearview mirror, the Lehigh men's track and field team is set to travel to Boston, Massachusetts for this weekend's Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Championships. The Mountain Hawks will be seeking their first-ever Patriot League team title.

The Brown and White enter the weekend with several athletes ranking at or near the top of the Patriot League in certain events this season. Lucas Warning (shot put-17.62m) and Trevor Knowles (heptathlon-5,053 points) both hold the best scores in the mentioned events this season, each setting a new school record in the process. Daniel Boardman ranks in the top 10 in the league in three events including the high jump (6th-2.00m), long jump (6th-7.01m) and triple jump (7th-13.90m).

TRACK

Sprints
Michael Camera will represent Lehigh in the 60 meter dash, with Christopher Del Rossi competing the 200 meter dash. Camera is coming off his fastest time of the season at the Bucknell Tune-Up with his 60m time of 7.04 seconds. He has finished runner-up or better in three of his last four meets, including his 7.16 second victory in the Covert Classic. Del Rossi turned in a season-best 200m time of 23.11 in a second place finish against Lafayette.

Del Rossi will also represent Lehigh in the 400m dash, along with teammates Emre Soybas and Robert Iulo. Del Rossi captured first place (51.44) in the Lafayette dual meet, while both Soybas (51.31) and Iulo (52.57) ran their season-best times earlier this month at the Armory Track Invitational.

Tom Troxell, Clay Stabolepszy and James Clements are the trio tentatively scheduled to compete in the 500 meter dash. Troxell has competed in the event twice this season, winning at the Bucknell Tune-Up as well as the Covert Classic with a season-best time of 1:07.49. Stabolepszy came in second to Troxell at Bucknell and also finished third with a PR at the Covert Classic.

Mid Distance/Distance
John Tolbert is entered as Lehigh's lone representative for the mile run. He is coming off a season best time of 4:18.87 at the Armory Track Invitational, after finishing second overall in his only other mile of the season in the Covert Classic.

The team's most represented events will be the 3,000 and 5,000 meters, which will feature six competitors each. Alexander Fitzgerald, Patrick Reilly, Ryan Cooney, Samuel Layding, Sean Burke and Evan Ward are all slated to compete in the 3,000 meter run. Fitzgerald holds the league's seventh rated 3,000m time this season, a converted 8:22.36 mark at the Covert Classic.

The 5,000 meter will feature many of the same faces, with Evan Hardy joining Reilly, Layding, Fitzgerald, Ward and Burke. Reilly, a Second Team All-Patriot performer from cross country, enters the race with the seventh-fastest time (14:33.98) in the league, from his fifth place tally at the Armory Track Invitational.

Hurdles/Relays
Fritz Isaac carries the eighth best time league time of 8.42 seconds into the 60 meter hurdles, where he will be joined by Robert Hugin, who set a new PR this season by finishing third (8.56) at the Lafayette dual meet.

Lehigh will also put forth teams in the 4x400, 4x800 and 4,000 distance medley relays.

FIELD

Jumps
Boardman and Ryan Givens will lead the way for Lehigh in the high jump. Boardman also leads the way in the long jump, along with Daniel Reichenbach, Michael Gooding and Michael Camera. Reichenbach set a new PR in the long jump this year at the Angry Birds Invite, placing fourth at 6.78 meters. Gooding (6.38m) and Camera (6.26m) both recorded their season highs at the Angry Birds Invite.

The four long jumpers will also compete in the triple jump, along with Isaac, who holds the eighth furthest triple jump this season (13.84m) in the Patriot League.

Knowles leads the way in the pole vault, along with senior Tyler John who is coming off a personal high mark in the pole vault last week at Bucknell (4.65m). Beau Whitman (PR-4.57m vs. Lafayette) and freshman Max Jordan are also entered to compete.

Throws
Warning leads the way not just for the team, but the whole league in the shot put, holding the two furthest throws of the entire season (17.41 and 17.62m). Alexander Rodgers will make his PLC debut in the shot put and weight throw, setting his season highs at the Covert Classic and Lafayette Dual.

Heptathlon
Knowles and Ryan Givens will round out the list of Lehigh's entries in the heptathlon. Knowles is the only Patriot League athlete to eclipse the 5,000 point mark in the heptathlon all season, a feat he has accomplished twice at the Thundering Herd Invitational and Lehigh Fast Times Meet. He also holds the eighth highest pole vault in the league. Givens has put together a strong freshman campaign, scoring 4,087 points at the Thundering Herd Invite and 4,096 at the Fast Times Meet.

The 2016 championships are slated to begin at noon on Friday at Boston University's Track and Tennis Center. A live video stream of the event will be available through the Patriot League Network for all of Sunday's action. Be sure to check back to Lehighsports.com and the Patriot League's Championship Central Page for schedules, live results and complete championship information.
