EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – Seventeen members of the Lehigh wrestling competed in the Mountain Hawks' first competition of the year as 10 attached wrestlers and seven unattached wrestlers competed at Sunday's East Stroudsburg Open at Koehler Fieldhouse. Nine of Lehigh's 17 entrants placed in the top four of their respective weight classes with three: deferred freshman Ryan Pomrinca, sophomore Gordon Wolf and true freshman Jordan Wood claiming titles in the first tournament of the new season.

Pomrinca went 5-0 to claim the 141 pound title, edging Navy starter Zack Davis 4-3 in the semifinals before defeating Michael Van Brill of Rutgers in the finals. He was one of three Lehigh entrants at 141. Freshman Luke Karam finished fourth, falling 2-1 to Van Brill in the quarters and losing to Davis by fall in the consolation final. Sophomore Camden Fischer went 3-2, with the losses also coming against Van Brill and Davis.

Wolf won his first four bouts at 165 picking up a decision, a major decision, a technical fall and a pin before meeting teammate Chase Gallik in the finals, in a rematch of their wild public wrestle-off from October 27, which Wolf won 18-17. The rematch was another high scoring affair, with Wolf emerging victorious 16-12. Gallik settled for second place going 3-1 with two falls.

Wood also went 5-0 in his unattached debut at 285, picking up pins in his first two bouts before winning his next three by decision including a 3-1 decision over Franklin & Marshall starter Antonio Pelusi in the semifinals and a 7-2 win over Navy's Andrew Piehl in the finals. Fellow freshman Andrew McDonald competed at 285 as well and went 1-2.

In addition to Gallik, sophomore Tom Murray and freshman Chris Weiler also posted runner up finishes. Murray went 3-1 at 197, including a 1-1 mark against Rutgers wrestlers in his final two matches. Weiler won his first two bouts at 184 before dropping his finals match to Rutgers starter Nicholas Gravina.

Deferred freshman Kent Lane was Lehigh's lone third place finisher, going 4-1 at 157.

In addition to Karam, Lehigh's other fourth place finisher was freshman Nick Farro, who went 3-2 at 133.
