Men's Soccer Concludes Regular Season on Senior Night

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's soccer team will play its final game of the 2016 regular season on Saturday night in a home Patriot League contest against American. Kickoff at the Ulrich Sports Complex is slated for 7 p.m. At halftime, the Mountain Hawks will honor its senior class in what could possibly be the final game of their Lehigh careers.
Live video of the game will be available on the Patriot League Network and live stats will be available at lehighsports.com. Tickets will be sold at the Ulrich box office prior to the game or can be purchased online.
The top-six teams in the Patriot League standings at the end of the regular season qualify for the Patriot League Tournament. Lehigh currently ranks eighth in the standings with nine points and is one point behind Lafayette and Bucknell who are tied with 10 points for the final postseason spot. American ranks first in the Patriot League standings and has clinched a first round bye in the PL Tournament.
The Mountain Hawks can still qualify for the Patriot League Tournament heading into Saturday's tilt. Lehigh must defeat American and then get help as both Lafayette and Bucknell must either tie or lose. American can clinch the No. 1 seed in the PL Tournament with a win or tie to go with a loss or tie by Loyola.
Lehigh put itself in position to qualify for the postseason with a critical win on the road last Saturday at Bucknell. The Mountain Hawks fell behind early as the Bison scored in the ninth minute, but two tallies by LU leading scorer Mark Forrest lifted Lehigh to the 2-1 victory.
American is coming off a decisive 3-0 victory over Holy Cross at home last Sunday. The Eagles set the tone with a goal in the sixth minute and then tacked on goals in the 47th and 67th minute as they out-shot the Crusaders 15-4 on the day.
Lehigh ranks eighth in the Patriot League with a scoring average of 1.06 goals per game and ranks fifth in the conference in scoring defense by allowing 1.35 goals per game. Forrest leads the Lehigh offense with 17 points on a team-best seven goals to go with three assists. Forrest ranks first in the conference with a 1.31 point-per-game average. Will Smith anchors the LU defense as he ranks second in the PL in both goals-against average (0.99) and save percentage (.800).
American ranks first in the Patriot League with a scoring average of 1.83 goals per game and ranks sixth in the conference with an opponent scoring average of 1.20. Joe Iraola leads the Eagles in scoring and is tied for fifth in the conference with 16 points on six goals and four assists. Lucas Belanger anchors the Eagle defense and ranks in the middle of the pack in the PL with a goals-against average of 1.17 and a .750 save percentage.
American leads Lehigh in the all-time series with a record of 12-6-5 since the series started in 1990. The Mountain Hawks are 2-0-1 in the last three meetings and won the last meeting at the Ulrich Sports Complex back in 2014.
Lehigh is 3-3-1 at home this season, including a record of 2-1-0 against Patriot League opponents at home. American is 4-3-4 on the road and is an impressive 3-0-1 in conference road games.
