BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's soccer team will make a trip to Bucknell on Saturday in search of three points to remain in contention for the Patriot League postseason. Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m. in Lewisburg, Pa.
Live video of Saturday's game will be available on the Patriot League Network and live stats will be provided by Bucknell.
With two games remaining, Lehigh will in all likelihood need two wins and six points to have a chance at clinching one of the final two spots in the six-team Patriot League Tournament. Lafayette and Bucknell are holding the fifth and sixth spots, respectively, with 10 points each. Lehigh would need to finish with more points than Lafayette since the Leopards hold the head-to-head tiebreaker. A win over Bucknell on Saturday would give Lehigh the head-to-head tiebreaker if the two teams finish tied in points.
Boston University sits ahead of Lehigh in seventh place with eight points and Holy Cross is tied with LU with six points, but the Crusaders hold the head-to-head tiebreaker. The Mountain Hawks will have to finish with more points than Holy Cross, but can afford to finish tied with Boston since they hold the tiebreaker. If Lafayette and Bucknell both win on Saturday, Lehigh and Holy Cross will both be eliminated from postseason contention.
Lehigh had an opportunity to pick up three crucial points on Wednesday night at Lafayette, but suffered a heart-breaking 1-0 defeat as the lone goal of the contest was scored on a penalty kick in the 69th minute. Bucknell is coming off a 1-0 win on Wednesday night and handed Loyola its first conference loss of the season.
The Mountain Hawks rank eighth in the conference in scoring with 1.00 goals per game, while the Bison rank fourth with an average of 1.47 goals per game. Lehigh ranks seventh in scoring defense with a 1.38 opponent scoring average, while Bucknell ranks last with an opponent scoring average of 1.59 goals per game.
Mark Forrest is the top scoring threat for Lehigh as he ranks eighth in the Patriot League with 13 points on five goals and three assists. He is also sixth in the conference with an average of 1.08 points per game. Bucknell's Sebastiaan Blickman leads the Patriot League in scoring with 19 points on eight goals and three assists. He ranks fifth in the conference with 1.12 goals per game.
Will Smith ranks second in the Patriot League in both goals-against average (0.99) and save percentage (.813) as the Lehigh backstop. He has a record of 4-3-1 on the season with two clean sheets in eight starts. Emmett Witmer ranks eight in the conference with a 1.38 goals-against average and ranks outside the top-10 with a .674 save percentage. He is 4-5-1 on the season with two shutouts.
Lehigh and Bucknell are tied 26-26-9 in the all-time series which began in 1960. In the last 10 meetings, the Bison own a 5-4-1 advantage. The Mountain Hawks won the last meeting, 2-0, in the first round of the Patriot League Tournament last season after finishing in a 1-1 draw in the regular season meeting.
The Mountain Hawks have won the last three meetings in Lewisburg, having not lost since 2007. Lehigh is 3-5-0 on the road this season, including a record of 0-4-0 against conference opponents. Bucknell is 2-3-1 on its home turf this season with a 0-2-1 record against Patriot League opponents at home.
