Lehigh Set for Wednesday Night Showdown at Lafayette

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's soccer team will meet with Lafayette for 113th time on Wednesday night when the two teams get together at Oaks Stadium at 7 p.m. The Mountain Hawks and Leopards enter Wednesday's contest separated by one point in the Patriot League standings. Lafayette is ranked fifth in the standings and Lehigh is ranked eighth and is on the outside looking in at the PL playoff picture with three games remaining.

Lehigh is 6-8-1 on the season with a 2-4-0 record in the Patriot League and is riding a two-game win streak. The Mountain Hawks picked up two wins last week beginning with a nonconference win at Fordham on Tuesday before returning home on Saturday to pick up a much needed PL victory over Boston University. Doyle Tuvesson tallied both game-winning goals in the two wins last week and earned the honor of Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week. Will Smith allowed just one goal in 180 minutes last week and tied his season-high with eight saves in the win over Boston as he was named the Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week.

The Mountain Hawks are averaging 1.07 goals per game on the season, while averaging 1.00 goals per game in conference play. Mark Forrest leads the LU offense with 13 points on a team-high give goals to go with three assists. The Lehigh defense is allowing 1.40 goals per game this season, with an average of 1.83 goals per game in conference play. In seven starts this season, Smith has a goals-against average of 1.00 and a .818 save percentage with a record of 4-2-1 and two shutouts.

Lafayette is 6-7-2 overall on the season with a record of 2-3-1 in the Patriot League and is winless in its last four contests with a record of 0-2-2. The Leopards last won a game on October 5 in a 1-0 victory over Bucknell which capped off a run of three-straight victories. Lafayette had just one contest last week which resulted in a 1-1 draw with Holy Cross on Saturday. The Leopards let up a goal in the fifth minute, but then a tally by Ryan Goncalves in the 83rd minute saved his team from a loss.

The Leopards are averaging 0.80 goals per game on offense this season with an average of 0.67 goals per game in conference play. Evan Vare leads the Lafayette offense with 13 points on a team-high six goals with one assist. The Leopard defense has surrendered just 15 goals on the season for an average of 1.00 goals per game with an average of 1.17 goals per game against conference opponents. Brad Seeber anchors the Lafayette defense in goal with a 1.12 goals-against average and a .741 save percentage with a record of 5-7-1 and three shutouts.

Lehigh is 3-4-0 on the road this season with a record of 0-3 in conference road games. Lafayette is 1-4-2 on its home turf this season with a record 0-2-1 against Patriot League opponents in home contests.

The Mountain Hawks lead the all-time series 56-46-10 over Lafayette. Lehigh won last season's meeting, 2-0, at home which snapped a run of four-straight losses to the long-time rival.

The last time Lehigh won at Lafayette in regulation or in overtime was in a 3-1 victory in 1997. In 2000, the Mountain Hawks advanced on penalties, 5-3, over Lafayette in the Patriot League Championship after playing to a 1-1 draw at the end of 110 minutes.
