Lehigh posts strong performance in Women’s Club Fours at the Head of the Charles
10/22/2016 3:32:00 PM | Men's Rowing, Women's Rowing
BOSTON - Lehigh Rowing put forth a strong showing in the Women's Club Fours at the prestigious Head of the Charles on Saturday, as the Mountain Hawks finished 26th to guarantee an entry into next year's regatta. Lehigh also saw an alumni boat race in the Men's Club Eights.
"The women's fours had a great race," said Lehigh head coach Brian Conley. "Our goal was to finish in the top half of this prestigious event and the women did just that. They rowed hard and because they finished in the top 50 percent of their event, they guaranteed the entry for next year. I'm really proud of the work the team did to get here."
The crew finished with a time of 20:51.962, good for 26th place out of 59 crews. The Mountain Hawks' alumni boat also posted a time of 17:31.076 in the Men's Club Eights, good for 30th out of 36 crews.
"The alumni went out and raced hard against a mixed event of club teams, alumni boats and collegiate boats," said Conley. "It's great to have so many people affiliated with the program celebrating our sport through competition at all ages, and sharing in the stories that make our program great."
One additional alumnae rowed on Saturday as Cara Skola Stawicki '05 raced in the Women's Championship Doubles, taking eighth out of 21 boats with a time of 19:11.171. The heat included Olympians such as Emma Twigg and Kate Brennan (2016 Olympic Champion).
Lehigh returns to action on Sunday with an entry in the Men's Collegiate Fours, which is set to begin at 1:15 p.m.
