BETHLEHEM, Pa. – A Lehigh softball pitcher once again was named Patriot League Pitcher of the Week on Monday, but for the first time this season the honor went to sophomore Christine Campbell. The Mountain Hawks closed out the regular season with a three-game sweep at Colgate and it was Campbell who did not allow an earned run in 12 innings against the Raiders including a no-hitter in Saturday's second game.
The award is the third career Pitcher of the Week award for Campbell. Teammate Emily Bausher has won six Pitcher of the Week awards for the Mountain Hawks this season.
In the nightcap of Saturday's doubleheader sweep of Colgate, Campbell threw her first career no-hitter and the 13th for Lehigh pitchers since 2004. She faced just three batters over the minimum with three strikeouts and two walks as junior Jessica Calvini's two home runs and six RBI powered Lehigh to an 11-0 win in five innings.
Campbell followed with another strong effort in Sunday's series finale in Hamilton, N.Y., allowing just one unearned run on two hits in a complete game effort.
With the two victories, Campbell improved her season record to 16-2. She has four complete-game shutouts and now sports a 1.71 ERA which is second only to Bausher's 1.28 in the Patriot League.
Lehigh outscored Colgate 21-1 in the three-game series sweep and allowed just three hits in 60 at bats to the Raiders for a 0.50 batting average.
Also on Monday, junior Alexis Watanabe received an honorable mention from the league, after leading Lehigh at the plate against Colgate. In three games, Watanabe was 8-for-11 at the plate with three doubles, four runs scored and two RBI. She enters the upcoming Patriot League Tournament with a league-best .462 batting average.
The Mountain Hawks finished the regular season at 36-7 overall and 16-2 in the Patriot League. Lehigh will host the Patriot League Tournament beginning Thursday at Leadership Park and will face No. 4 seed Army West Point in the tournament's first game beginning at 12:05 p.m.
