BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Winners of four of its last five games, the Lehigh men's basketball team vies for its fourth straight home victory when the Mountain Hawks host Army on Wednesday. Lehigh hopes to sweep the regular season series after a 71-60 win at Army four weeks ago. Both teams enter Wednesday's matchup with identical 5-5 records as part of a logjam in the Patriot League standings.
Â
The Goodman Bus Service will leave from the Dialogue Center (on Taylor Street between Taylor Gym and Grace Hall) at 6:15 and 6:45 p.m. Wednesday features RecycleMania in Stabler Arena, a friendly competition for college and university recycling programs to promote waste reduction activities to their campus communities. As part of the promotion, schools will be compared based on recycling and waste minimization efforts made during a single home basketball game during the February and March timeframe of RecycleMania. Lehigh will be ranked based on several categories, including who has the least amount of combined trash and recycling, who has the highest recycling rate and the total amount of recycling collected (per capita). Lehigh's Office of Sustainability will be on hand with giveaways and prizes for some fans who recycle.Â

After a tough loss at Bucknell last Wednesday, the Mountain Hawks responded by beating Boston University 89-86 on Saturday. Lehigh avenged a tough loss in Boston a few weeks earlier by jumping out to a 22-point halftime lead before holding off a valiant Terriers' comeback attempt. The Mountain Hawks' defense allowed a season-low 23 first-half points for a second straight game, but Boston University's offense caught fire in the second half. Freshman Kahron Ross was a perfect 8-of-8 from the free throw line in the final minute, which proved critical in the victory. Ross finished the game with 18 points for a second straight game, adding ten assists for his third-career double-double. Coupled with his 18-point, four-assist effort at Bucknell, Ross was named Patriot League Rookie of the Week for the fourth time. He became Lehigh's second straight honoree (after Brandon Alston won the award last week) as the Mountain Hawks have captured the award in five of the first 12 weeks of the season.
Â
Four Mountain Hawks finished with double-figure points, led by sophomore Tim Kempton's 25 points. He also added nine rebounds, shooting 9-of-14 from the field and 7-of-9 from the free throw line. Classmate Austin Price had 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting and 3-of-4 from three-point range while junior Jesse Chuku scored 12 points (all in the first half). Chuku was a perfect 3-of-3 from three-point range in the first half, including a big trey as the first half expired.
Â
Lehigh shot 54.7 percent from the floor, exceeding 50 percent for the fourth time this season and second time in the last three games (also at Lafayette). The 89 points scored marked a season high against a Division I opponent (previous high was 86 at DePaul). Wednesday features the #1 and 3 scoring offenses in the league - Army and Lehigh. In the last meeting, the Mountain Hawks allowed a season-low 60 points to the Black Knights, a low that has stood since. Army's next fewest points are 65 on Jan. 21 against Colgate.
Â
Army has enjoyed an up-and-down season, entering Wednesday with a 14-7 overall record and 5-5 mark in the Patriot League. The Black Knights finished nonleague play with a 9-2 record, but began league play just 2-4. Army won three straight (over Colgate, American and Boston University), but lost at home to Loyola last time out, 77-71. The Black Knights are an impressive 7-2 on the road with the only defeats coming at Duke and Bucknell. Preseason Patriot League Player of the Year Kyle Wilson leads the team in scoring (18.9 ppg) while Tanner Plomb averages 14.6. Kevin Ferguson comes in at 9.4 points and 5.6 rebounds per game while Dylan Cox owns a team-leading 97 assists. All five of Army's starters are juniors. The Black Knights lead the league in points per game (75.1), but have also given up the ninth most points in the league (71.5 per contest).
Â
Army leads the all-time series, 62-38, but Lehigh won the last meeting earlier this season, 71-60 and has won eight of its last 11 against the Black Knights. Army won both games last season to snap a five-game Mountain Hawks' winning streak. The first meeting between the sides came during the 1906-07 season, a 26-24 Lehigh victory. Army won the next game (in 1914-15) by a 19-6 final.
The Mountain Hawks hit the road on Saturday at Loyola. Lehigh returns home next Thursday (Feb. 12) to host American at 7 p.m. That game will air nation-wide on CBS Sports Network.
