Mountain Hawks head to Easton to face rival Lafayette Saturday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- The Lehigh women's basketball team looks to bounce back from a tough loss to Navy Wednesday night when the Mountain Hawks head across town to face archrival Lafayette Saturday. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. from Lafayette's Kirby Sports Center and free video will be available on the Patriot League Network with audio on ESPN Radio of the Lehigh Valley 1230 and 1320 AM. Lehigh aims to complete the season sweep of the Leopards after claiming the season's first contest 65-60.
 
Lehigh couldn't get its offense in any sort of rhythm Wednesday night inside Stabler Arena as the Mountain Hawks shot just 25 percent from the field and dropped a 50-44 contest to Navy. Senior Sarah Williams led Lehigh offensively with 12 points and three assists. Sophomore Lexi Martins was held to four points, but grabbed a career-high 17 rebounds. Junior Kerry Kinek tallied seven points and five rebounds.
 
The Mountain Hawks finished the game shooting 25 percent (16-for-64) from the field, 31.3 percent (5-for-16) from three-point range and 50 percent (7-for-14) from the free throw line. Navy shot 38 percent (19-for-50) from the field, 27.3 percent (6-for-22) from downtown and 42.9 percent (6-for-14) from the charity stripe. Lehigh controlled a 50-39 rebound advantage, including a 20-7 edge on the offensive glass, but the Mountain Hawks were only able to score eight second-chance points.
 
The Mountain Hawks currently sit in fourth place in the Patriot League with a 9-6 league record and 17-8 overall mark. Lehigh is one game ahead of Holy Cross and Bucknell, who are tied for fifth place, and a game behind third-place Navy. The Mountain Hawks enter Saturday's contest leading the league in scoring offense (70.3 ppg) and rebounding offense (41.7 rpg) and ranking second in scoring margin (+5.8 ppg), field goal percentage (43 percent) and rebounding margin (+8.5 rpg).
 
The Leopards carry a 12-14 overall record and 5-10 Patriot League mark into Saturday's contest and currently sit in seventh place in the Patriot League.  Lafayette has lost five of its last six games with the exception of a 69-63 victory over Loyola on Feb. 11. Lafayette is 8-4 at home this season compared to its 4-10 away record. Saturday's game will serve as Lafayette's final home game of the regular season.
 
In its most recent action, Lafayette was unable to overcome a 10-point halftime deficit, as Holy Cross held on to beat the Leopards 59-53 Wednesday night in Worcester, Mass.
 
Emily Homan finished with a game-high 21 points on 10-of-14 shooting for Lafayette. Maddie Peabody joined Homan in double figures with 11 points, while Jamie O'Hare dished a team-best five assists.
 
Homan leads the squad, and ranks second in the Patriot League, with an average of 17.8 points per game. The senior also averages a team-best 7.9 rebounds per game, which ranks fourth in the league. O'Hare sits second in the league in three-point field goals made (2.2), third in three-point field goal percentage (39 percent) and fourth in assists per game (3.8).
 
The Leopards have been outscored by a margin of -1.6 points per contest this season and outrebounded by a mark of -2.9 boards per game.
 
The Mountain Hawks will be looking to complete the series sweep of the Leopards Saturday afternoon. Lehigh claimed the season's first meeting 65-60 in Stabler Arena. The Mountain Hawks used a 19-9 run during the middle of the second half and held off a late Leopard rally to secure the victory. Lehigh picked up its ninth-straight home victory over Lafayette with the win and evened the all-time series between the two squads at 43-43.
 
Freshman Quinci Mann led Lehigh with 15 points, all of which came in the second half. Williams and junior Elizabeth Sharlow each tallied 11 points, while Martins finished with nine points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Williams finished with a team-best five assists.
 
The Mountain Hawks finished the game shooting 33.9 percent (20-for-59) from the field, 13.3 percent (2-for-15) from three-point range and 65.7 percent (23-for-35) from the charity stripe. Lehigh held Lafayette to a 27.9 (19-for-68) field goal percentage and 30.4 percent (7-for-23) showing from downtown. The Mountain Hawks held a 53-44 rebound edge.
 
Following Saturday's rivalry matchup, the Mountain Hawks head to Bucknell Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
