BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- The Lehigh women's basketball team faces a tough road test Wednesday night when the Mountain Hawks head to Washington, D.C. to face first-place American in a battle of two of the league's top three teams. Free video of the contest will be available on the Patriot League Network with audio coverage on 91.3 WLVR.

The Mountain Hawks look to capitalize on their momentum following a 75-61 win over Loyola Saturday in the team's most recent action. Lehigh got off to a quick start and was able to hold off several late Loyola rallies en route to the Mountain Hawks' eighth league win of the season. Sophomore Lexi Martins recorded her 15th double-double of the season with a game-high 21 points and ten rebounds. Senior Katie O'Reilly put together a strong game with 16 points, a career-high eight steals, six rebounds and three assists. Junior Kerry Kinek chipped in ten points and five rebounds, while sophomore Kayla Burton followed with seven points and three assists.

The Mountain Hawks finished the game shooting 52.7 percent (29-for-55) from the field, 28.6 percent (2-for-7) from three-point range and 68.2 percent (15-for-22) from the charity stripe. Lehigh held Loyola to a 32.8 percent (22-for-67) clip from the field and 22.7 percent (5-for-22) mark from downtown. The Mountain Hawks held a 42-33 rebound advantage and scored 44 of their 75 points in the paint.

Lehigh enters Wednesday's game in third-place in the Patriot League, just two games behind first-place American (10-2), one game behind Army (9-3) and one game ahead of Navy and Holy Cross (7-5) in the tight league standings. The Mountain Hawks lead the league in scoring offense (71.8 points per game) and field goal percentage (44.2 percent). Martins leads the way with 15.6 points and 11.1 rebounds per game as the sophomore has recorded a league-best 15 double-doubles so far this season.

American enters Wednesday's game in first place in the Patriot League with a 10-2 league record and 15-8 overall mark. The Eagles carry a two-game win streak into Wednesday's matchup after defeating Colgate (75-46) Saturday and Loyola (55-44) last Wednesday. American's only two league losses came at the hands of Holy Cross (67-61, Jan. 31) and Army (68-60, Jan. 24).

The Eagles used a balanced offensive attack to claim a 75-46 victory over Colgate in Bender Arena in the team's most recent action on Saturday. American began the game on an 11-0 run and never looked back, as Colgate never got closer than seven points. After taking a 41-22 lead at the half, the Eagles continued to extend their lead after the break en route to their second-largest victory of the season.

Junior Michelle Holmes registered her third straight double-double, finishing with 13 points and 11 rebounds in just 23 minutes of action. Meanwhile, senior Jen Dumiak added 13 points, six assists and six rebounds for the Eagles.

American ranks first in the league in free throw percentage (74.1 percent), assists (15.7) and assist/turnover ratio (1.1), and second in the Patriot League in scoring offense (63.7), field goal percentage (44.2 percent) and turnover margin (+1.00). Dumiak leads the squad with 17 points per game as well as a league-best 6.2 assists per contest and a free throw percentage of 92.5.

American's Shaquilla Curtis hit a three-pointer with 0.8 seconds to play to force the season's first meeting into overtime on Jan. 14 in Stabler Arena as the Eagles were able to pull out the 75-73 overtime victory. O'Reilly scored a team-best 19 points to go along with six rebounds and four assists. Kinek recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Williams turned out an all-around strong performance with 11 points, a season-high six assists and four rebounds.

American was led by Dumiak with 22 points and nine assists. Curtis followed with 16 points, while Michelle Holmes chipped in 15.

Lehigh finished the game shooting 44.1 percent (30-for-68) from the field, 40 percent (6-for-15) from three-point range and just 53.8 percent (7-for-13) from the free throw line.

The Mountain Hawks return home Saturday to host Holy Cross at 2 p.m. inside Stabler Arena. The contest will be Lehigh's Play 4Kay game benefitting breast cancer research and awareness. Fans who wear pink to the game will receive free admission and Lehigh Gas will donate $1 to local women's cancer charities for every fan in attendance.
