Beckman was seeded fifth at 133. He began his day with a 12-1 major decision over Purdue's Luke Welch and then topped the No. 12 seed Brance Simms of South Dakota State with a 10-2 major decision. In Tuesday night's quarterfinals, Beckman met No. 13 seed Emilio Saavedra of Old Dominion, who had upset No. 4 seed Eric Montoya of Nebraska earlier in the day. Beckman led 1-0 after two periods thanks to a second period escape and then rode out the third period, but conceded two points for stalling from the top position. In sudden victory, Saavedra secured the winning takedown to prevail 4-2.
On Wednesday, Beckman will face No. 8 seed Joey Palmer of Oregon State with the winner securing a place in the top eight.
Lehigh's other three Midlands entrants competed unattached. At 133, sophomore Scott Parker went 1-2. Freshmen Cole Walter and Jordan Kutler competed unattached at 157. Kutler was the only Mountain Hawk with a pigtail match on Tuesday, in which he blanked Kent State's Casey Sparkman 4-0. He gave a solid effort against No. 3 seed Lou Mascola of Maryland but was sent to the consolations with a 6-5 loss in the round of 32. Kutler bounced back with a pair of wins by decision over opponents from Illinois and Columbia before being eliminated by No. 8 seed Richie Lewis of Rutgers 4-2 in the fourth round of consolations.

Senior Nathaniel Brown was slated to be the fifth Mountain Hawk to compete at the Midlands but a winter storm in Chicago left Brown unable to travel to the area. Brown will instead join 15 of his Lehigh teammates at the Southern Scuffle, beginning Friday in Chattanooga, Tenn.
