BETHLEHEM, Pa. - After a break of games for the holidays, the Lehigh men's basketball team continues its homestand when the Mountain Hawks begin Patriot League play by hosting Army West Point on Wednesday. Opening tipoff is set for 7 p.m. in Stabler Arena. Last time out, Lehigh hung with preseason America East favorite Stony Brook for much of the game, but the Seawolves pulled away for the victory. The Mountain Hawks look to improve to 16-10 all-time in Patriot League openers.

Last time out vs. Stony Brook, Lehigh jumped out to a first-half lead, eventually extending the advantage to nine late in the first half. However, the Seawolves turned a close game into a runaway victory. A pair of Austin Price free throws pulled the Mountain Hawks within two (57-55) with 7:01 remaining, but Stony Brook ended the game on an 18-7 run.

Freshman Kyle Leufroy continued his strong play with a team-high 13 points on 3-of-5 shooting while dishing a career-high five assists and tallying two steals. In total, five different Mountain Hawks recorded multiple steals as they finished with 14 for the game, Lehigh's second game this season with double-figure steals (also on Nov. 13 at Syracuse). Seniors Devon Carter and Justin Goldsborough each tallied a career-high two steals while sophomore Kahron Ross recorded a team-high three steals. The 14 steals were the most by any Patriot League team this season (no other team has had more than 12) and the most in the tenure of Lehigh head coach Brett Reed. The Mountain Hawks now lead the league with 7.5 steals per game.

Senior Jesse Chuku scored 11 points against Stony Brook on 5-of-10 shooting while Goldsborough added nine. Ross and senior John Ross Glover tallied eight points apiece while Glover dished a career-high two assists in his second straight start. The Mountain Hawks were playing without junior Tim Kempton for a third straight game due to injury.

Lehigh finished its nonleague schedule with a 2-9 record, but the mark came against one of the nation's toughest schedules which currently ranks 13th by Ken Pomeroy. The Mountain Hawks are playing better as of late, which includes an impressive victory over preseason NEC favorite Mount St. Mary's, defeating the Mountaineers despite missing Kempton, the Patriot League's reigning Player of the Year. Lehigh looks to start league play on a high note and win its league opener for the third time in the last four years. Army West Point enters Wednesday with a 9-3 record, owning the best record in the Patriot League to this point. Lehigh last opened Patriot League play against Army West Point during the 1999-00 season, an 81-64 victory on Jan. 12, 2000.

The Black Knights have won six of their last seven games with the lone loss coming to Marist. Most recently, Army West Point earned an impressive win against Monmouth on Monday, a Monmouth team that has beaten five power conference opponents this season. The Black Knights have been starting five seniors this season, led by Tanner Plomb who leads the Patriot League in scoring average (21.8) to go with 6.3 assists per contest. Kyle Wilson is next with 18.2 points per contest while Kevin Ferguson averages 11.7. Army West Point leads the league in scoring (86.2), but allows 76.3 points per game (seventh in the league).

Army West Point leads the all-time series, 62-39, but the Mountain Hawks have enjoyed success as of late. Lehigh won both meetings last season, including a dominant 103-74 victory last February in Stabler Arena. The Mountain Hawks have won four of the last six meetings and seven of the last nine overall with the only two losses coming during the 2013-14 season. The first meeting between the sides came in 1906-07, a 26-24 Lehigh victory. Army West Point won the next game in 1914-15 by a 19-6 final.

Lehigh will remain home for its second Patriot League contest when the Mountain Hawks welcome Boston University on Saturday (Jan. 2) at 2 p.m.
