
Mountain Hawks back in action Thursday at Rider

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- The Lehigh women's basketball team returns to action from an 11-day break for final exams when the Mountain Hawks head to Rider Thursday in the third contest of a five-game road swing. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
Lehigh will be looking to snap a three-game losing streak after starting the season 6-0. The Mountain Hawks most recently dropped a tough 76-67 decision at Illinois Dec. 6. Lehigh was within four points of the Illini with two minutes to come, but the Mountain Hawks weren't able to complete the upset. Sophomore Quinci Mann scored a career-best 23 points, while junior Lexi Martins tallied her eighth double-double of the season with 14 points and 17 rebounds, but Illinois' Kyleigh Simmons made six second-half three-pointers to thwart Lehigh's comeback attempts.
The Mountain Hawks finished the game shooting 36.7 percent (22-for-60) from the field, highlighted by a 46.4 (13-for-28) clip in the second half. Lehigh shot 40 percent (10-for-25) from three-point range and 59.1 percent (13-for-22) from the charity stripe. Illinois went 45.1 percent (32-for-71) from the field, 36.4 percent (8-for-22) from downtown and 80 percent (4-for-5) from the free throw line. Lehigh held a 44-35 rebound advantage.
The Mountain Hawks lead the Patriot League in scoring offense (73.4 ppg), free throw percentage (73.2), field goal percentage (43.4), field goal percentage defense (35.2), rebounding margin (+10.6) and assist/turnover ratio (0.9).
After starting the season 2-0, Rider dropped its next five contests and will be carrying a 2-5 record, including an 0-2 conference mark, into Thursday's contest. Similar to Lehigh, the Broncs will be playing their first game since Dec. 6 when the Mountain Hawks come to town Thursday.
The Broncs earned wins over Towson (78-72) and St. Francis Brooklyn (71-59) to open the season, but have since dropped games to UMBC (58-53), Princeton (78-59), Army West Point (57-42), Iona (59-46) and Canisius (73-64).
Robin Perkins leads Rider with 15.4 points per game and is the only Bronc averaging double-figure points. Julia Duggan follows with 8.0 points per game. C'quoya Haughton leads the squad with 7.4 rebounds per contest, while Manon Pellet has dished a team-best 23 assists.
The Broncs have been outscored by an average of 6.1 points per game and are averaging 59.0 points per game. Rider is shooting 39.0 percent from the field, 30.5 percent from three-point range and 64.8 percent from the free throw line. The Broncs have been outrebounded by 3.3 boards per game.
Thursday's game will be the 28th all-time meeting between Lehigh and Rider and the Mountain Hawks hold a 19-8 series advantage. Thursday will be the first meeting since 2010 and just the second contest between the two schools since 1997.
The Mountain Hawks earned a 58-41 victory on Dec. 29, 2010 in the most recent meeting between the two teams when Rider visited Stabler Arena for the Christmas City Classic.
Following Thursday's game, Lehigh will remain on the road to take on Hampton Sunday at 3 p.m.
