BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Following a high-scoring 98-89 defeat at Canisius Monday night, the Lehigh men's basketball team heads to Stabler Arena for its home opener on Thursday night. Opening tipoff is set for 7 p.m. The game features a matchup of preseason No. 1 picks in the Patriot League and Ivy League, respectively. Members of the Lehigh football team will be involved in a halftime Pep Rally leading into Saturday's 151st meeting between Lehigh and Lafayette, which will include performances, contests, music and give ways, as well as comments from the team.

The Mountain Hawks will be searching for their ninth home-opening win in their last 10 tries. Last time out, Lehigh took a 41-39 lead into halftime at Canisius, then opened a 14-point second-half lead, but the Golden Griffins caught fire down the stretch. The second half saw 107 combined points, 59 by Canisius and 48 by the Mountain Hawks. This came one game after 104 points were scored in the entire Lehigh-Syracuse game. Canisius used an up-tempo, pressing style to cause turnovers and score points in bunches, this after the Golden Griffins dropped their season opener at Hofstra in another high-scoring affair, 96-85.

Five Mountain Hawks posted double-figure points on Monday, led by 20 points from junior Austin Price, his fourth-career 20+ point game. Senior Jesse Chuku added 19 points, nine rebounds, two blocks and two steals in an impressive all-around effort. He shot 7-of-11 from the field and 5-of-6 from three-point range, the first Mountain Hawk to knock down five three-pointers since Price also had five on Nov. 12, 2013 against Rider. Junior Tim Kempton scored 17 points and seven rebounds, despite limited minutes due to foul trouble. Fouls were a common theme of Monday's game, with 51 combined fouls called and 66 free throws taken. Sophomore Kahron Ross tallied 14 points and seven assists while freshman Kyle Leufroy came off the bench to post 12 points on 5-of-10 shooting. Monday marked the first time since last Feb. 4 vs. Army that Lehigh had five players with double-figure points.

The challenging November schedules continues as Lehigh will face two of the top Ivy League teams in a four-day stretch as Yale was predicted to win the Ivy League while Columbia (Sunday's opponent) was picked second. Next week, the Mountain Hawks will head to Virginia and Purdue on Nov. 25 and 28, currently ranked No. 6 and 21 in the AP Top 25.

Yale is coming off a strong season in 2014-15 and hopes remain high heading into this year. The Bulldogs were 22-10 last season and 11-3 in league play, falling to Harvard in an Ivy League Playoff, 53-51. So far this year, Yale is 2-0 with convincing 13 and 20 points wins over Fairfield and Sacred Heart, respectively. The Bulldogs have been led by Makai Mason and his 22.0 points per game while Justin Sears is second, averaging 16.5 per contest and Brandon Sherrod third at 16.0 points per game. As a team, Yale is shooting .435 compared to its opponent's .465. The Bulldogs are outrebounding their opponents by an average of 13.0 per game.

Lehigh leads the all-time series against Yale, 8-7 with the last meeting coming on New Year's Eve in 2010. After first playing way back during the 1903-04 season, then in 1913-14, they didn't play again until 1974-75. The teams played for nine straight seasons during the 1990s, but they didn't meet again until Jan. 5, 2010 when the Mountain Hawks topped the Bulldogs, 75-69 inside Stabler Arena. Lehigh won the following season, 62-57, to extend its winning streak against Yale to five.

Following Thursday's game, the Mountain Hawks hit the road for four straight contests, beginning on Sunday at Columbia. Opening tipoff is set for 4 p.m.
