Mountain Hawks aim to remain undefeated in league play Saturday at Loyola

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- The Lehigh women's basketball team looks to remain undefeated in Patriot League play Saturday when the Mountain Hawks hit the road to take on Loyola. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m., free video will be available on the Patriot League Network as well as audio coverage on WLVR-FM (91.3) beginning at 1:45.

Lehigh aims to move to 4-0 in league play and 12-2 overall. The Mountain Hawks are coming off a big 63-51 victory over Army Wednesday night. Lehigh turned out its best defensive effort of the season and never trailed as the Mountain Hawks toppled defending Patriot League champion and preseason favorite Army. Lehigh's victory cemented the Mountain Hawks' first 3-0 start to Patriot League play since the 2007-08 season. Lehigh's 11-2 overall record is the best since the 2009-10 squad started 13-2. That team went on to win a Patriot League Championship.

Sophomore Lexi Martins registered her tenth double-double of the season with 20 points and a career-high 16 rebounds. Martins added four assists to go with her fifth-straight double-double. Senior Katie O'Reilly followed with 15 points, five rebounds and four assists, while classmate Sarah Williams chipped in 11 points.

The Mountain Hawks shot 48.9 percent (22-for-45) from the field and 50 percent (6-for-12) from three-point range. Lehigh struggled from the charity stripe, going just 13-for-29 (44.8 percent). The Mountain Hawk defense held Army to a 35.7 percent (20-for-56) clip from the field and 14.3 percent (2-for-14) showing from downtown.

Lehigh enters Saturday's contest leading the league in a number of statistical categories including scoring offense (76.0 ppg), field goal percentage (47.8) and three-point FG percentage (37.0).

Loyola will be looking to pick up its second league win and fourth victory of the season Saturday. The Greyhounds carry a 3-11 overall record and 1-2 league mark into Saturday's matchup. Loyola started league play with a 55-49 victory over Navy before falling to Army and American on the road.

Loyola is coming off a 62-50 road loss at American Wednesday night. The Eagles led by as much as 20 points in the first half, but Loyola scored 12 of the last 16 points to end the first half down 34-18. Loyola pulled within single-digits on three occasions in the second half, trailing by as few as eight, 52-44. American was too much for the Greyhounds though, as the Eagles went on to score 12 of the game's last 16 points.

Junior Colleen Marshall led Loyola for the second-straight contest with 15 points, while freshman Bri Betz-White chipped in 10. Junior Jeneh Perry grabbed a team-best seven rebounds.

The Greyhounds rank last in the league in scoring offense (51.4 ppg), scoring margin (-15.3), free throw percentage (61.2), field goal defense (46.0), rebounding margin (-7.6), and assists (8.6).

The Mountain Hawks look to pick up their second-straight win over Loyola and increase the Lehigh lead to 6-3 in the all-time series. The teams split last year's meetings, with the road team coming out on top on both occasions.

In a game that featured 13 lead changes and five ties, a three-pointer from Elizabeth Jordan with 5.4 seconds on the clock gave the Mountain Hawks a 50-47 victory at Loyola in the last meeting on Feb. 8. Lehigh held a decisive 52-32 rebound advantage and finished the game shooting 27.4 percent (17-for-62) from the field. The Mountain Hawks went 13-for-20 from the charity stripe and just 18.8 percent (3-for-16) from three-point range. Loyola shot 31.4 percent (16-for-51) from the field and 61.9 percent (13-for-21) from the free throw line.

Elizabeth Sharlow led the Mountain Hawks with 11 points, while Kerry Kinek followed with nine. Kinek also tallied a game-high 14 rebounds. Katie O'Reilly chipped in seven points.
