Mountain Hawks predicted sixth; Glatt named preseason All-Patriot League

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh field hockey team was picked sixth in the Patriot League preseason poll while sophomore forward Marissa Glatt was named a preseason All-League honoree, as announced on Monday. Glatt was the only freshman named a first team All-Patriot League honoree last season, leading the team and finishing second in the league with 12 goals. She added one assist for 25 points in an impressive rookie campaign.

American narrowly edged Boston University in the preseason poll, garnering 68 points and eight first-place votes while the Terriers posted 66 points and six first-place votes. Bucknell came in third with 47 points while Lafayette had 46, Colgate 32, Lehigh 19 and Holy Cross 16.

Glatt was one of just two sophomores named preseason All-League, along with Boston University's Hester van der Laan. After going pointless in her collegiate debut, Glatt scored a goal in each of her next six games. In total, she scored 41 percent of Lehigh's goals a season ago as a catalyst of the offense.

Despite struggling in the win-loss column, Lehigh took big strides last season, hanging tough in every game. The Mountain Hawks also picked up consecutive shutouts (over Towson and Georgetown) while defeating a strong Lock Haven program, 2-1. A talented group returns in 2014 as 13 of the 14 players who recorded a point are underclassmen. Julia Ward returns in goal following a standout freshman campaign which saw her post a 2.98 GAA and .756 save percentage, along with a pair of shutouts.
