Lehigh set for two non-league doubleheaders this weekend

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – In its off weekend from Patriot League play, the Lehigh softball team will play a pair of non-league doubleheaders this weekend. The Mountain Hawks will play a doubleheader at Manhattan on Saturday before returning home to host Saint Francis (Pa.) in a Sunday twinbill. The first pitch both days will be thrown at noon.
The Mountain Hawks fell to 24-17 on the season after losing a pair of non-league games to Hofstra Wednesday on Long Island. Lehigh still tops the Patriot League standings with a 12-3 league mark. The Mountain Hawks are the only team to clinch a spot in the Patriot League tournament thus far.
Sophomore Morgan Decker led Lehigh at Hofstra, going 3-for-6 at the plate with her eighth home run of the season, which accounted for Lehigh's lone run in an 8-1 game two loss. Decker has upped her team leading batting average to .407. She has 44 hits and a team-high 36 RBIs.
Classmate Alexis Watanabe has been another top producer for the Mountain Hawks this season, batting .378 off a team-high 54 hits.
Lehigh battled Hofstra without the pitching services of junior Emily Bausher, the reigning Patriot League Pitcher of the Week. Last weekend, Bausher pitched eleven scoreless innings with 17 strikeouts to come out with three wins in Lehigh's sweep over Holy Cross. Bausher improved to 10-5 on the season and leads Lehigh with 84 strikeouts and a low 2.08 ERA.
Seniors Ashley Quigley and Kelsey Lee and freshman Christine Campbell combined to allow 19 runs on 22 hits in the two games against a strong Hofstra squad.
Manhattan is 17-23 this season after losing a pair of games to Iona on Wednesday to drop to 7-7 in MAAC play. The Jaspers are batting .250 as a team and are being outscored by opponents 187-184. Kate Bowen has been a dual threat, leading the offense with a .333 batting average and 48 hits. Jenn Vazquez and Elena Bowman both have 33 RBI and have combined for 17 home runs. Bowen also leads the Jasper staff with a 3.19 ERA to go along with a 9-6 record. Amy Bright is 7-12 with a 3.79 ERA and a team-best 82 strikeouts.
Lehigh leads the all-time series versus Manhattan 5-1. The Mountain Hawks won the most recent meeting, 6-3 at the Rebel Spring Games in 2012.
Saint Francis (Pa.) owns a 22-19 record after splitting a doubleheader against Akron on Wednesday. The Red Flash are 4-6 in the NEC and will stop in Bethlehem Sunday after a Saturday league doubleheader at Sacred Heart. SFU s batting .268 as a team and has outscored opponents 188-153. Chelsey Cosentino leads the offense with a .360 batting average and a team-high 41 hits. From the circle, Alexis Bower is 14-9 on the season with a team-low 2.47 ERA and team-high 78 strikeouts. Bower has also been a top run producer at the plate with a .306 average, seven home runs and 34 RBI.
The Mountain Hawks have won two of the three meetings with Saint Francis all-time including the most recent meeting, which also came at the Rebel Spring Games, an 8-3 win in 2012.
Following Sunday's doubleheader, the Mountain Hawks will close out the regular season with three games against Patriot League rival Army May 3-4 at West Point, N.Y.
