RIVERDALE, N.Y. – After squandering a 2-0 lead in a game one loss, the Lehigh softball team scored the final six runs of the nightcap as the Mountain Hawks pulled away for a 7-1 win to split a doubleheader with Manhattan Saturday at Gaelic Park. The Jaspers scored single runs in each of its final three at bats to win game one 3-2.

Freshman Vicky Lattanzio went 4-for-5 in the doubleheader and reached base six times in seven plate appearances. Lattanzio and junior Emily Bausher drove in Lehigh's first five runs on the day.

With the split, Lehigh is now 25-18 on the season, while Manhattan is now 18-24.

In game one, the Mountain Hawks went ahead with two runs in the top of the third inning. Sophomore Morgan Decker started things with a one-out single. Classmate Jessica Calvini then reached on a fielder's choice and came around to score from first on a single to right center by Bausher. Lattanzio followed with a double to right center, plating Bausher to make the score 2-0 but was thrown out bidding for a triple.

Manhattan methodically battled back, scoring a run on a sacrifice fly by Andi Stallard in the fourth inning and then a two-out RBI double by Elena Bowman in the fifth.

The Jaspers took the lead in the sixth on a one-out double by Stallard, who scored on a two-out single to right by Mickayla Romero.

Both teams finished with six hits in the opener. Bausher suffered the loss for Lehigh allowing three runs in six innings while walking two and striking out four. She falls to 10-6. Danielle Gabriel earned the win for Manhattan limiting Lehigh to just those two third inning runs.

Lattanzio and Bausher combined again to give Lehigh the early lead in game two as Lattanzio led off the second inning with a single to center, and then scored on Bausher's one-out triple to right center.

Romero pulled the Jaspers even with a solo homer to center in the bottom of the second inning off senior Ashley Quigley.

Lehigh regained the lead in the fourth with Lattanzio and Bausher claiming RBIs. Decker drew a leadoff walk and pinch runner Lizzy Odren stole second. Lattanzio then doubled to right center bringing Odren home with the go-ahead run. Calvini followed with her second sacrifice bunt of the game before Bausher brought Lattanzio home with a ground out to second base.

In the sixth, the Mountain Hawks broke the game open with four runs. A Calvini double sandwiched around walks to Lattanzio and Bausher loaded the bases for junior Cassie Waggy, who singled through the left side, scoring Ashley Cole to make it 4-1 Lehigh. Junior Emma Capetz then hit a ground rule double to right bringing in two more runs to put the Mountain Hawks up by five. Waggy came home with Lehigh's seventh and final run when sophomore MacKenzie Velasquez reached on an error.

Quigley had a strong game in the circle, allowing just the one run on five hits. She struck out four and did not walk a batter as she improves to 7-5 on the season.

The Mountain Hawks will host a non-league doubleheader against Saint Francis (Pa.) Sunday at Kaufman Field, with first pitch for game one set for noon.
