Mountain Hawks suffer 4-1 loss to visiting Bryant Sunday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – In its final match before a 12-day layoff, the Lehigh men's tennis team fell 4-1 to visiting Bryant Sunday inside the Lewis Tennis Center. The Mountain Hawks won the doubles point but the Bulldogs captured the top four singles flights to rally for the victory.
The Mountain Hawks were once again forced to juggle their doubles lineup with junior Mitchell Petersen out and senior Mark Goldberg limited to doubles duty. Lehigh is now 6-4 on the season.
Junior Ben Gilman and sophomore Jeremy Kochman moved back up to the No. 1 doubles spot and opened things up with an 8-4 win over Ernesto Arguello and Dana Parziale. The matches at the bottom two flights went to tiebreaks, with Goldberg and freshman Ethan Bogard losing 7-3 to lose 8-7 at the No. 3 flight. Senior Timur Chernykh and freshman Tyler Hansen clinched the doubles point, winning the tiebreak 8-6 to defeat Zachary Morris and Joshua Rubinstein.
With Goldberg and Petersen out of singles play, Kochman, Chernykh and Hansen all climbed the ladder. Chernykh fell 6-1, 7-5 to Morris at the No. 3 flight, while Hansen lost to Arguello 6-4, 6-3 at No. 4 singles.
Gilman played No. 1 singles and lost 7-5, 6-2 to Parziale. Kochman played No. 2 singles for the first time this season and suffered his first loss of the year as Oliver Welsh clinched the match for the Bulldogs with a 4-6, 6-2, 7-5 victory.
The bottom two singles flights were not finished. Freshman Jason Sutker was down a set and down 0-3 at No. 5 singles, while classmate Ethan Bogard was up a set and up 3-0 in the second when the match ended.
The Mountain Hawks will be off until Saturday March 15 when they host Villanova at 10 a.m. inside the Lewis Tennis Center.
