BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's and women's track and field teams will head to Lewisburg Friday evening to compete in the Bucknell Tune-Up beginning at 5 p.m. against Bucknell, Shippensburg and Bloomsburg. The meet will be the Mountain Hawks' final opportunity to prepare for next weekend's Patriot League Championships, which will also be held in Bucknell's Gerhard Field House.
Both Mountain Hawk teams are coming off record-setting performances at the Armory Collegiate Invitational last weekend. The women set four new Lehigh records and qualified multiple Mountain Hawks for the ECAC Championships, while the men recorded a new standard in the 5000 meter race.
Freshman Courtney Avery set her second Lehigh record in three weeks as the rookie recorded a 1.75m leap in the high jump. The jump earned her a record-tying third Patriot League Rookie of the Week honor.
Senior Jessica Kendzor claimed fifth place and set a new Lehigh record in the 500 meter dash with an ECAC qualifying mark of 1:14.57. Senior Danielle Albergo set a new Lehigh standard in the 400 meter dash with a clip of 57.60. Albergo, Kendzor, freshman Lindsay Voltz and junior Halie Carter set a new Lehigh record in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:53.06.
Lehigh's distance medley relay team, junior Ingrid Simon and sophomore Elizabeth Weiler also turned out ECAC qualifying marks in their respective events.
On the men's side, senior Tyler Mueller finished the 5000m run with the 14th-best time in Division I this season and set a new Lehigh record with his mark of 14:12.68. The blistering pace crushed the IC4A standard by 30 seconds. Junior Ryan Mahalsky and senior Jimmy Miller followed right behind Mueller in the race, recording the 28th and 50th fastest times in the country so far this season, as each qualified for the IC4A championships.
