LEWISBURG, Pa. – Strong performances in the sprints led the Lehigh men's track team at the unscored Bucknell Tune-Up on Friday evening. The meet served as Lehigh's final competition before the Patriot League Championships, which will take place next weekend on Bucknell's track.
"We're setting up well for Patriot League Championships next weekend," said head coach Matt Utesch. "A number of our kids bumped up on the league depth charts and that means fast sections at the league championship meet. We also had great performances in the field that add to our confidence in those events."
Junior Justin Mahoney claimed a victory in the 400 meter dash with an impressive time of 49.82, less than a second away from an IC4A qualifying mark. Classmate Christopher Watson won the 800 meter run after finishing in 1:55.63. Junior Sebastian Nicewicz finished second in the 500 meter run, crossing the line in 1:08.03.
Senior Nick Molloy continued his impressive indoor season with a new personal-best time of 4:18.72 in the mile, which was good for third place. Junior Simon Voorhees placed second in the 1000 meter run with a new personal-best time of 2:30.58. Junior Daniel Reilly recorded a new personal best of 8:49.49 in the 3000 meter run and finished second.
Junior Adeolu Adesida and senior Patrick Ciez finished second and third, respectively, in the high jump with marks of 2.10m and 2.00m. Senior Ryan Paquin was Lehigh's highest finisher in the long jump with a launch of 6.61m that was good for fourth place. Classmate Benjamin Beauchamp finished seventh in the weight throw with a launch of 15.86m.
The Mountain Hawks will now begin final preparations for the Patriot League Championships, which are set to take place next Friday through Sunday at Bucknell.
