BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- Looking to capitalize on its recent momentum, the Lehigh women's basketball team will host third-place American Wednesday at 6 p.m. inside Stabler Arena. The game has been moved to 6 p.m. due to the impending snow storm that is expected to affect the Lehigh Valley. The Mountain Hawks have won their past two games, while the Eagles ride a three-game streak into Wednesday's meeting and sit just one game out of first place. The game can be viewed on Service Electric 2 Sports in the Lehigh Valley or for free online via the Patriot League Network. Fans can also tune into 91.3 WLVR-FM or wlvr.org.
Lehigh is participating in Game Day: Basketball, a recycling challenge at one home basketball game as part of the RecycleMania competition. Lehigh Eco-Reps and the Lehigh Office of Sustainability will be on hand to help promote recycling, answer questions about recycling and help Lehigh win RecycleMania.
A three-pointer from sophomore Elizabeth Jordan with 5.4 seconds left on the clock lifted Lehigh past Loyola 50-47 on Saturday at Reitz Arena. The back-and-forth game featured 13 lead changes and five ties as the late shot gave Lehigh its second-straight win and broke a seven-game road losing streak.
Â
Lehigh held a decisive 52-32 rebound advantage and finished the game shooting 27.4 percent (17-for-62) from the field. The Mountain Hawks went 13-for-20 from the charity stripe and just 18.8 percent (3-for-16) from three-point range. Loyola shot 31.4 percent (16-for-51) from the field and 61.9 percent (13-for-21) from the free throw line.
Â
Sophomore Elizabeth Sharlow led the Mountain Hawks with 11 points, while classmate Kerry Kinek followed with nine. Kinek also tallied a game-high and season-best 14 rebounds.
Â
American has won its past three games after dropping two straight to Navy and Army. The Eagles own a 16-7 overall record this season and are 8-3 at home and 8-4 on the road.
Â
The Eagles captured a 75-57 win at Colgate on Saturday in their most recent game. American trailed the Raiders 44-43 four minutes into the second half, but was able to string together an 11-1 run to pull away.
Â
Three players reached double-figures with Arron Zimmerman scoring a game-high 19 points. Jen Dumiak added 16 and Alexis Dobbs finished with 10 points for the Eagles. Sarah Kiely led American with six rebounds. Dumiak and Ti'Asia McGeorge posted a team-best five assists.
Â
The Eagles allow an average of 54.4 points from their opponents, which is the lowest in the league. American's scoring margin of +10.2 sits atop the league charts, as does its field goal percentage (42.4), field goal percentage defense (35.9) and turnover margin (+1.70).
Â
Lehigh's last win against American in Stabler Arena was the 2010 Patriot League Championship game as the Mountain Hawks have dropped the last four home games to the Eagles. American also holds a 21-12 all-time advantage.
Â
The Eagles claimed the first meeting of the season, 70-61, in the nation's capital. The Mountain Hawks got off to a slow start and found themselves down 33-19 at halftime. Despite outscoring the Eagles 42-37 in the second half, Lehigh's slow start was too much to overcome as American claimed its third-straight win.
Â
Kinek led all scorers with 21 points and five blocks, while also tallying a team-leading five assists. Junior Katie O'Reilly followed with 11 points, while senior Lindsay Hoskins and freshman Kayla Burton each chipped in eight. Freshman Lexi Martins led Lehigh with five rebounds.
