BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Former Lehigh men's lacrosse standouts Cameron Lao-Gosney and Ty Souders were selected #2 and 3 overall in the Major League Lacrosse Supplemental Draft on Wednesday. Cameron was selected by the Florida Launch with the second pick while the Ohio Machine followed by selecting Souders. Every MLL team submitted a 23-man protected roster for 2015, with everyone else eligible for selection as the teams round out their rosters.
Â
Overall, 96 players were selected in Wednesday's supplemental draft including several standout players. Former Army player and member of Team USA Garrett Thul was selected first overall by the Charlotte Hounds.
Â
Lao-Gosney will return to the team that he played for this past summer and rejoin his brother Roman, who was among the Launch's protected players. Cameron played in five games in 2014, firing four shots. He owns a pair of Major League Lacrosse goals, both for the Hamilton Nationals in 2013. At Lehigh, Cameron was a two-time All-Patriot League honoree, posting 111 career points behind 77 goals and 34 assists. As a senior, he helped lead the Mountain Hawks to the 2012 Patriot League Tournament Championship and their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance. Lehigh garnered the #7 national seed and hosted eventual national finalist Maryland.
Â
Souders will look to see MLL action for the first time in 2015 after being selected 22nd overall by the Denver Outlaws in last January's collegiate draft. He was Lehigh's highest-ever draft pick then was on Denver's collegiate inactive list last summer. Souders recently wrapped up a decorated career in the brown and white, earning All-Patriot League honors on two occasions and All-America three times. He helped quarterback one of the nation's top defenses last season as the Mountain Hawks have emerged among the nation's best defensive units in Souders' tenure. The Emmaus High School graduate ended his career with 139 groundballs and 56 caused turnovers.
Â
Following a strong fall campaign, the present-day Mountain Hawks look ahead to a challenging spring 2015 slate. Lehigh is looking to advance to a fourth straight Patriot League Championship Game and win a third title in that span. The Mountain Hawks are also looking to advance to the NCAA Tournament for the third time in four years.
