BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- The Lehigh women's basketball team looks to improve to 3-0 Friday night when the Mountain Hawks travel to NJIT for a 7 p.m. contest. Lehigh is 8-0 all-time against the Highlanders.

The Mountain Hawks captured an 82-70 road victory at Monmouth to open the season last Saturday before defeating East Stroudsburg 77-53 Monday inside Stabler Arena. A trio of 17-point performances from juniors Kerry Kinek and Elizabeth Sharlow along with sophomore Lexi Martins helped lead Lehigh to the victory over the Warriors. The three forwards combined for 51 points and 27 rebounds as the Mountain Hawks secured a 2-0 start to the season for the second-straight year.

Martins has recorded a double-double in both of Lehigh's games and leads the team with an average of 16 points and 11 rebounds per contest. She earned the season's first Patriot League Player of the Week honor Monday after her 15-point, 10-rebound performance at Monmouth. Freshman point guard Quinci Mann was recognized as the Patriot League Rookie of the Week as the Mountain Hawks swept the first round of weekly awards.

Five Mountain Hawks are averaging double-digit points through Lehigh's first two games. Following Martins' 16 ppg mark, Kinek follows with 14.5, Sharlow with 13.0, junior Katie O'Reilly with 10.5 and Mann with 10.0.

Lehigh has outscored its opponent by an average of 18.0 points per game in the season's first two contests in addition to a 14.5 rebound advantage.

NJIT enters Friday's contest with a 1-2 record and the Highlanders are coming off their first win of the season Wednesday night at Fairleigh Dickinson, 68-64.

Nicole Maticka recorded a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds, leading four double-figure scorers for visiting NJIT Wednesday night, as the Highlanders won their first game of the 2014-15 season. Guard Martina Matejcikova scored a game-high 17 points for NJIT, finishing 6-for-13 from the floor and 4-of-4 from the foul line. Alyssa Albanese and sophomore forward Leah Horton scored 10 points apiece.

Friday's game will serve as the home opener for the Highlanders. NJIT dropped a 61-56 decision on Nov. 14 at New Hampshire and fell in overtime at Dartmouth on Nov. 16, 68-63, before beating Fairleigh Dickinson.

Horton leads the Highlanders with 12.7 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. Matejcikova follows with 11.3 points per game, while Albanese registers a mark of 11.0. Albanese averages a team-best five assists per game. Matejcikova's 43.3 shooting percentage leads the squad.

The Highlanders have been outscored by an average of two points per game so far this season, but hold a +5.0 rebound advantage. NJIT averages 20.7 turnovers per contest. The team is shooting 36.8 percent from the field, 38.5 from three-point range and 62.9 percent from the charity stripe.

The Highlanders finished the 2013-14 season with an 8-21 record.

The Mountain Hawks look to keep their unbeaten streak against NJIT alive Friday when Lehigh heads to New Jersey. This will be the ninth all-time meeting between the two schools, with Lehigh holding an 8-0 record against the Highlanders.

Lehigh erased a ten point second-half deficit to rally and defeat NJIT 77-72 in last season's meeting on Nov. 11 inside Stabler Arena.

Kinek finished the game with a team-leading 20 points and 12 rebounds, to record her first double-double of the season and second straight 20-plus point game. Katie O'Reilly followed with 15 points, while Sarah Williams and Martins each chipped in ten.
