BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Following an overtime thriller at Navy, the Lehigh men's basketball team returns home to host archrival Lafayette on Saturday. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. in Stabler Arena. Senior Mackey McKnight's layup with 1.1 seconds remaining in overtime on Wednesday helped Lehigh snap a five-game losing streak, giving the Mountain Hawks their first win since the league opener at Colgate (which came in double overtime). Lehigh hosts rivals Lafayette Saturday and Bucknell next Wednesday to round out the first time through league play.

The Mountain Hawks broke through and won a close game at Navy to pick up a big win and improve to 2-5 in Patriot League play. Lehigh is currently tied for seventh (with Navy) in league play, ahead of Colgate (1-6) and Saturday's opponent Lafayette (0-7). The Mountain Hawks are still only two games behind fourth place (and home court in the Patriot League Quarterfinals) with 11 league contests still remaining.

McKnight scored the key basket to break a 66-66 tie and send Lehigh home winners, but a balanced team effort led to the victory. Sophomore Justin Goldsborough carried the offense in the first half with 11 of the team's 23 points. Junior Stefan Cvrkalj finished with 14 points (all in the second half); he knocked down all five of his second-half field goal attempts and all four of his three-pointers. Cvrkalj added a career-high seven rebounds as well. Freshman Tim Kempton bounced back from a tough stretch with a team-high 15 points and six rebounds. McKnight finished with 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting along with six assists and five boards. He became the first player since John Adams on Feb. 25, 2012 at Army to make a game-winning shot in the final seconds.

Sophomore Jesse Chuku made an impact on both ends of the floor, scoring five big points including two big free throws late in overtime. Defensively, he finished with a career-high five blocks including a block at the end of regulation and overtime to help preserve the victory.  The block total was the most since Zahir Carrington had six on Dec. 17, 2009 against Dartmouth.

In total, seven of Lehigh's last eight games have gone down to the game's final minute. The Mountain Hawks have won twice, ironically both the overtime games. The Mountain Hawks have now beaten Navy eight straight times.

Lafayette has struggled this season, standing 4-14 overall and 0-7 in Patriot League play. The Leopards have impressed offensively, shooting 46.4 percent from the field and 40.1 percent from three-point range, but they've allowed their opponents to shoot 47 percent and 40.7 percent from long distance. Lafayette's 72.7 points per game are second in the league, but 77.6 points allowed are last. All-Patriot League honoree Seth Hinrichs got hurt in December and has only played nine games, averaging more than 20 points in those games. Bryce Scott leads the team in scoring (13.8) while Dan Trist is second (12.8). Two others average double figures, including freshman point guard Nick Lindner (10.9) who also averages 4.1 assists per contest. The Leopards are coming off a 59-58 loss to Holy Cross.

Lehigh won five straight games between 2010 and 2012, but Lafayette responded by winning all three meetings a season ago. Overall, the Leopards own a 137-80 all-time advantage. Lehigh is 6-4 over the last 10 games against its rival, including season sweeps in 2010-11 and 2011-12. Lafayette swept the season from Lehigh for the first time (in competitive results) since 2001-02. The first meeting was in 1901-02, a 46-13 Lehigh victory. Lehigh won the first four before Lafayette's first win in 1914-15.

Lehigh wraps up the first round of Patriot League play when it hosts rival Bucknell on Wednesday (Jan. 29). Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
