Lehigh dominates Loyola in 209-53 win

BETHELEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's swimming team enjoyed a strong 209-53 win over Patriot League newcomer Loyola Saturday at Jacobs Pool. The Mountain Hawks won 13 events in the 16-event meet as a new pool record was set in the 800 yard freestyle relay. Lehigh claimed first through third place in eight of the sixteen events.
 
The combination of Danny Bennett, Justin White, Owen Dunbar and Eric Sherwood finished the 800 free relay in 6:58.97 to set a new standard for Jacobs Pool and claim first place in the event.
 
Freshmen Kevin Huntley, Jacob Moyar and Justin White led the Mountain Hawks with two first-place finishes apiece. Huntley claimed his wins in the 100 breast (1:01.46) and 200 breast (2:13.32). Moyar swam into first place in the 200 fly (1:52.24) and 200 individual medley (1:57.25). Lehigh also took second and third place in each of Moyar's wins. White was victorious in the 100 free (47.86) and 200 free (1:45.58).
 
Sherwood led the way in the 1000 free with a mark of 10:05.10, narrowly edging out Bennett in second place (10:05.14). Junior Jake Greene followed right behind in third (10:05.56). Chris Hoke claimed first place in 50 free (21.18), while Bennett won the 500 free (4:52.19) to complete the Lehigh sweep of the freestyle events.
 
Junior Sean Brant finished atop the podium in the 200 back with a mark of 1:55.81, and was followed by two other Mountain Hawks in second and third. Sophomore Jake Hassel claimed the 100 fly with a mark of 53.01.
 
The team of Marty Kendig, Jamal Willis, Hoke and Hassel picked up another Lehigh win in the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:36.81.
 
The Mountain Hawks will host Bucknell on January 25 before splitting their squad on the final day of the regular season as some Lehigh swimmers will compete in the Navy Invitational on February 1 and others will compete in a dual meet at Drexel.
