BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh put forth a strong effort against a good Bucknell team Saturday on Senior Day at Jacobs Pool but the visiting Bison posted a 179-119 win over the Mountain Hawks. Bucknell captured 12 of 16 events but the Mountain Hawks battled to the very end.

Lehigh is now 5-5 in dual meets this season while the Bison men moved to 7-3.

"It was a great effort on senior day as the men and women both kept pace with a Patriot League powerhouse throughout the entire meet," said Lehigh head coach Rob Herb. "We swam with grit in every race. We may not have won every race but we never gave up a race. I'm very proud of the effort."

On a day when seniors Connor Cackovic, Matt Chrzanowski, Alex Heintzelman and Chris Hoke were honored, freshmen delivered two of Lehigh's three individual event wins. Reigning Patriot League male swimmer of the week Jacob Moyar won the 1000 yard freestyle in 9:42.82 and then finished second to junior Danny Bennett, who won the 500 free in 4:43.46.

Freshman Jamal Willis captured the 50 yard freestyle with a Jacobs Pool record time of 20.73 seconds.

Lehigh also won the 200 medley relay with Hoke teaming with junior Martin Kendig, sophomore Jake Hassel and freshman Justin White.

The Mountain Hawks managed to stay in contention with nine second place finishes. There were only three events in the meet where Lehigh did not finish first or second. Bennett took second in the 200 free while Moyar was runner-up in the 200 fly. Juniors Sean Brant and Jake Greene and freshman Kevin Huntley (100 and 200 breast) posted runner-up finishes.

On the diving boards, junior Dan Bateman finished second in both events. Bateman scored 222.70 points in the one meter, finishing just .22 behind the winner, and then scored 255.30 in the three meter.

The Mountain Hawks will split their squad next weekend for the final competition of the regular season. Some Mountain Hawks will take part in the Navy Invitational in Annapolis, Md., while others will compete in a dual meet at Drexel.
