BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Following yet another slim defeat, the Lehigh men's basketball team looks to break out of its four-game losing streak when it heads to Holy Cross to face the Crusaders on Saturday. Opening tipoff is set for 4 p.m. The Mountain Hawks have struggled at the Hart Center in their history, but won there last season and have won two of the last four. Saturday marks the first of two straight on the road before returning home to host Lafayette and Bucknell to wrap up the first round of Patriot League play.

In total, six straight Lehigh games have been decided by seven points or less; five of them were decided by four points or fewer and the sixth was an 88-81 double-overtime thriller at Colgate. For comparison, five games all of last season were decided by four points or fewer. In their most recent outing, the Mountain Hawks erased a 16-point first half deficit to eventually take a second-half lead, but a pair of Jesse Reed three-pointers in the final two minutes broke a tie, proving too much to overcome.

Senior Mackey McKnight continued his strong play with 24 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds to just miss a triple-double. The double-double marked his third of the season (and career). He now owns 495 career assists, on the verge of becoming just the second player in school history to reach the 500 assist plateau (the other being Marquis Hall). McKnight was 7-of-15 from the field and 4-of-10 from three-point range. Junior Corey Schaefer was efficient, scoring 12 points on 4-of-5 shooting and 2-of-2 from three-point range. Freshman Tim Kempton struggled from the field (4-of-14), scoring eight points while grabbing 11 rebounds. Sophomore Justin Goldsborough impressed for a third straight game, scoring seven points on 3-of-4 shooting. Kempton and Goldsborough each added a pair of blocks.

The loss marked the Mountain Hawks' third straight at home. The last time Lehigh dropped three straight in Stabler Arena was Feb. 21 through 28 of 2007 when the Mountain Hawks fell to Bucknell, Holy Cross, then Army (in the Patriot League Tournament).

The Mountain Hawks have won three straight against Holy Cross to pull within 35-18 in the all-time series. Looking even further back, Lehigh has won six of the last eight with the only two losses coming on the road. The Mountain Hawks have struggled all-time at the Hart Center, losing 17 of its last 19 there, but two of the wins have come in their last four tries (2010 and 2013). Last season, Lehigh beat a monster Northeast snowstorm that dumped nearly 30 inches of snow, and the Crusaders, winning 68-61 behind 22 points from McKnight. The first-ever meeting came in 1976, an 84-60 Holy Cross victory, before reconvening in 1991 for Patriot League play.

Holy Cross is coming off a big win at Army Wednesday to hand the Black Knights their first Patriot League defeat. The Crusaders are 8-9 overall, 2-3 in league play and 3-2 at home. Preseason All-Patriot League honoree Dave Dudzinski leads the team in scoring with 15.8 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. Cullen Hamilton, who's been battling injuries, comes in at 13.9 points while Malcolm Miller averages 9.9, Anthony Thompson 9.1 and Malachi Alexander 8.8. The Crusaders have earned home wins over Sacred Heart, Albany and Colgate while falling to Canisius and American.

Following Saturday's game, Lehigh remains on the road next Wednesday (Jan. 22) at Navy before hosting Lafayette on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 7 p.m.
