Volleyball continues home stretch with Crosstown Invitational this weekend

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh volleyball team seeks to build on its strong start to the season as it co-hosts the Crosstown Invitational this weekend. The team is coming off a tough 3-1 loss to Villanova on Tuesday night, but has accumulated a solid 5-2 record throughout the beginning of the season. The Mountain Hawks will host Morgan State, Quinnipiac, St. Francis (N.Y.) and Marist in the tournament.
The Mountain Hawks' match against Villanova proved to be a tough battle in which the Wildcats came out on top. Junior Jade Van Streepen registered her first double-double of the season with 11 kills and 17 digs. Junior Kaylynn Genemaras leads the team with 55 kills, followed closely by Van Streepen with 47. Senior Rachel Charles has recorded 122 digs so far this season, and sophomore Amy Matula has 205 assists. Sophomore Ana Vhrel leads the team with 17 blocks.
Lehigh's first match will take place on Friday at 3 p.m. against Morgan State. The Lady Bears picked up their first win of the season in their most recent game against The Citadel, 3-2. The team carries a 1-5 record into the weekend. Morgan State is led by Jannelle Wilson with 39 kills, Ngebui Chefeh with 155 assists and Tamara Leslie with 65 digs. This will be the sixth all-time meeting between the two schools, with Lehigh holding the 3-2 series advantage. The last meeting was in 2009 and the Lady Bears captured a 3-0 victory.
The Mountain Hawks will then take on Quinnipiac Friday at 7 p.m. The Bobcats are winless this season with an 0-6 record. Allison Leigh leads the team with 41 kills while Emma Ogden has tallied 135 assists. This will be the third meeting between the Mountain Hawks and Bobcats, with the last contest in 2008. Lehigh has never lost to Quinnapiac and holds a 2-0 all-time record.
Action will resume on Saturday with a 10 a.m. match between Lehigh and St. Francis (N.Y.). The Terriers will come into the weekend with a 3-6 record, having recently defeated Quinnipiac in a 3-2 mid-week match. Maggie Niu leads the Terriers with 93 kills, followed by Domenique Gerard with 72. Kamalei Clifton has contributed 124 assists, while Feliz Ramirez has registered 98 digs. This will be the 14th meeting between the two schools, with Lehigh holding the 10-3 advantage. Lehigh will be looking to claim its sixth straight victory over the Terriers on Saturday.

The Red Foxes hold a 4-3 record coming into the weekend, and are coming off a 3-0 sweep of their most recent tournament competitors last weekend. Grace Hill leads the way for the Red Foxes with 68 kills, followed by Mackenzie Stephens with 67. Audra Brady has registered 229 assists, while Brooke Zywick has contributed 127 digs. Saturday's match will be the 11th all-time meeting between Marist and Lehigh, with the Mountain Hawks leading 6-4. The last match took place in 2008 when Lehigh suffered a 3-1 loss.
