Lehigh Sweeps Army On Diversity Day

11/7/2025 9:41:00 PM | Volleyball

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh volleyball played their third consecutive match inside Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall on Friday night, hosting the Army West Point Black Knights on Diversity Day, presented by Lehigh's Office of Inclusive Excellence and Belonging. The Mountain Hawks put forth a dominant display in a 3-0 sweep of the Black Knights.

Lehigh (11-12, 5-9 PL) opened the first set fast and furious, racing ahead to an 8-2 lead. Army (16-7, 10-4 PL) managed to stay afloat after the slow start, keeping within three to four points for most of the frame. The Mountain Hawks broke through in the latter half of set one, taking a 23-16 lead to put themselves in striking distance. The Black Knights cut the lead to three, but Lehigh closed out set one by a score of 25-21.

The Mountain Hawks blitzed the Black Knights to start set two, holding a 9-2 lead through the first 11 points. Lehigh continued to put their foot on the gas pedal, eventually gaining a match-high 12-point lead at 23-11. Lehigh's .308 hitting percentage in set two helped them claim a 25-14 victory and 2-0 lead in the match.

Lehigh again began set three on a 9-2 run, but this time Army got themselves back into the set. The Black Knights chipped away at Lehigh's advantage, eventually taking an 18-16 lead. The Mountain Hawks quickly responded with a 5-1 run of their own to regain the lead at 21-19. Army brought their deficit within one twice down the stretch, but a block from senior Madison McCartney and junior Ufuoma Omene secured the 25-23 set three win and match sweep.

The Mountain Hawks were a balanced attack offensively, led by first-year Mary Massias with nine kills, senior Natalie Luscomb with seven, and junior Alysia Fingall with six. Junior Abby Felkai led the way with 14 assists while sophomore Sophia Bond paced Lehigh with ten digs. McCartney tallied seven block assists in only three sets.

Chloe Murakami led the Black Knights with nine kills.

The Mountain Hawks will host the Holy Cross Crusaders on Saturday, November 8 at 4 p.m. for Senior Day. Arden Below, Drew Brown and McCartney will be honored in a special ceremony at the conclusion of the match. Lehigh has an opportunity to clinch a berth in the Patriot League tournament should they win and Loyola Maryland lose against Navy on Saturday.
