Mountain Hawks place eight on softball academic honor roll

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh softball team had a strong year on and off the field in 2013. The Mountain Hawks finished with a 37-16-1 record, and landed eight members on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, announced Wednesday, led by senior Rosie Roessel, the Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year for softball.

Roessel earned a 3.82 grade point average in the spring semester, majoring in mathematics, and was also named to the Academic All-Patriot League team for the third straight year. Lehigh's leadoff hitter and starting centerfielder was also named to the Capital One Academic All-District team last month.

Not far behind was freshman Morgan Decker who posted a 3.72 GPA in the college of Arts and Sciences. Decker's strong academic performance followed an outstanding freshman campaign where she was named Patriot League Player and Rookie of the Year, after winning the league's offensive triple crown. Sophomore Emily Bausher registered a 3.36 GPA majoring in earth and environmental science, and was also named to the Academic All-Patriot League team.

Also representing Lehigh on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll were senior Liz Lucas, junior Kelsey Lee, sophomore Cassie Waggy and freshmen Jessica Calvini and Alexis Watanabe.

A total of 46 softball student-athletes from the six schools that sponsor softball were named to the honor roll.

To be eligible for the Spring Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must earn a 3.20 grade-point average in the spring semester and participate in one of the Patriot League's winter or spring championship sports.
