Lehigh Drops Pitcher's Duel to BU 1-0 in Completion of Suspended Game

WEST POINT, N.Y. – After play was suspended Thursday afternoon in game two of the Patriot League Tournament, Lehigh and Boston University resumed their game Saturday morning at the Army Softball Complex. Sophie Naivar's fourth-inning home run stood as the only run of the game as the Terriers claimed a 1-0 victory in a pitcher's duel.

Lehigh out-hit Boston University 4-3 for the game but the Mountain Hawks were retired in order in both the sixth and seventh innings Saturday morning against BU's Kasey Ricard, who struck out eight in the complete game shutout.

On Thursday, Lehigh mustered a pair of singles by first-year Kelly Fricker, a single by sophomore Peyton Sward, and a double by senior Lindsey Martin.

First-year Madison Finnerty came on in relief of junior Chloe Hess to begin Saturday's action and threw two scoreless innings of relief, allowing two hits and a walk while striking out three. Finnerty and junior Sydney Parlett threw out Tyesha Williams at the plate trying to score from second on a wild pitch to end the bottom of the fifth inning.

Hess allowed just the home run plus a walk over four innings Thursday. She struck out two.

Lehigh will face Bucknell in an elimination game Saturday, 30 minutes after the 11:10 winner's bracket game between Boston University and Army. A Mountain Hawk win would put Lehigh in another elimination game against the loser of Army-BU to complete Saturday's action. The Lehigh-Bucknell game should start somewhere in the 1:30 p.m.-2 p.m. range.
