BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh seniors Brian Hess and Ryan Snyder have been named USILA Scholar All-Americans, as announced on Tuesday. The two honorees were the most in the Patriot League, joining Army's Brendan Buckley, Bucknell's Mike Huffner and Colgate's Peter Baum as five of the more than 90 individuals across Division I, II and III recognized.

It marks the second straight year that Lehigh has seen two seniors honorees as Scholar All-Americans following Cameron and Roman Lao-Gosney a season ago. Six Mountain Hawks have been recognized over the past four seasons, along with Jonathan Stumpf in 2011 and Evan Guerrero in 2010.

Lehigh has seen two honored each of the last two seasons and one each in 2002, 2003, 2006, 2010 and 2011.

In 1989 the USILA Scholar All-America Program was established to recognize senior student-athletes from USILA member institutions who have distinguished themselves academically, athletically and as citizens of their communities. The USILA Selection Committee selects an overall team representing Division I, II and III.

Hess enjoyed a strong career in all areas, as a senior captain and Second Team All-Patriot League honoree while owning an impressive 3.14 GPA as a Finance major. The Owings Mills, Md. native finished 2013 with career highs in goals (13), assists (8) and points (21) to help stabilize the Lehigh midfield. Hess posted a hat trick in the Patriot League opener at Army while scoring two goals at Holy Cross and vs. Colgate in the Patriot League Semifinals.

Snyder has excelled, both on and off the field. Named a candidate for the prestigious Senior CLASS Award, Snyder is a three-time All-Patriot League honoree as a faceoff specialist. He finished the season winning 49 percent at the X with 74 groundballs. Snyder dominated the First Team All-Patriot League honoree Alex Daly of Army, winning 13-of-17. Snyder also won 14-of-17 against Saint Joseph's and 8-of-9 against VMI. He finished his career with 313 groundballs, second in Patriot League history. Snyder owns a 3.28 GPA, also as a Finance major.

Both Hess and Snyder took part in the 145th graduation ceremonies at Lehigh Monday. They helped lead the Mountain Hawks to a second straight Patriot League Title and NCAA Tournament berth this season, becoming the first team since Navy six years ago to repeat as Patriot League Champions.
