BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- Lehigh looks to get back on track Thursday at 6 p.m. when the Mountain Hawks welcome Colgate into Stabler Arena for the start of Patriot League play. The game can be viewed locally on Service Electric 2 Sports and online via the Patriot League Network.
Â
Lehigh finished the non-league portion of its schedule with a 7-4 record. The four losses are the fewest in non-league play since the 2009-10 season when the Mountain Hawks accumulated a 13-2 record through that portion of the schedule. That squad went on to win a Patriot League Championship and earn an NCAA Tournament berth.
Â
The Mountain Hawks look to win their third straight, and seventh of the last eight, over Colgate Thursday. Lehigh hasn't dropped a home regular season contest to Colgate since Feb. 1, 2004.
Â
The last meeting between the two squads took place on Feb. 16, 2013 as Lehigh coasted to a 62-40 victory over the Raiders inside Stabler Arena on Play 4Kay night. The Mountain Hawks took the lead less than a minute into the contest and never looked back.
Â
Kerry Kinek finished as the leading scorer for the Mountain Hawks, tallying a game-high 16 points on 5-of-11 shooting from the field, coupled with seven boards. Lehigh put two other players in double figures with Hilary Weaver tallying 12 points and Lindsay Hoskins contributing 11.
Â
As a team, Lehigh shot 36 percent from the field and capitalized off of the Raiders' mistakes, turning 16 turnovers into 17 points, while outscoring Colgate in the paint 26-23 and 16-13 off the bench.
Â
The Mountain Hawks are coming off an 87-80 road loss at Columbia on Saturday afternoon. Twenty two Lehigh turnovers that resulted in 30 Columbia points hurt the Mountain Hawks despite the strong offensive effort. Lehigh shot 48.3 percent (29-of-60) from the field, while holding Columbia to 42.9 percent (30-of-70). The Lions held a 44-38 rebound advantage.
Â
Kinek and junior Katie O'Reilly both chipped in 16 points to lead the Mountain Hawk offense at Columbia. Junior Sarah Williams followed with 11 and sophomore Elizabeth Sharlow added ten. Freshmen Lexi Martins and Kiernan McCloskey each grabbed a team-leading six rebounds, while Martins also added eight points. The game marked the sixth time this season that the Mountain Hawks have had at least four players score in double figures in a single contest.
Â
The Raiders aim to stop their two game skid and improve upon their 4-7 record when they enter Stabler Arena Thursday.
Â
Colgate is coming off back-to-back road losses at Albany (64-50) and Michigan State (96-46). Prior to the two losses, the Raiders had won three straight contests over Robert Morris, Columbia and Drexel. Â The Raiders are 3-5 away from home this season.
Â
Colgate's -8.6 scoring margin ranks last in the Patriot League, as does its field goal percentage defense of 41.9 percent. The Raiders are second in the league, behind Lehigh, in steals, averaging 8.2 per game.
Â
Three Raiders average double-digit points, with senior Lauryn Kobiela's average of 11.3 points per game leading the way. Juniors Carole Harris and Mariah Jones each average 10.5 points per game. Harris leads Colgate in rebounding with 7.6 boards per game. Kobiela has dished a team-leading 46 assists.
Â
Following Thursday's matchup, the Mountain Hawks will head to league newcomer Boston University on Sunday. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. and the game can be viewed for free on the Patriot League Network.
