Mountain Hawks clash with Rhode Island Saturday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- After a hard-fought road win at Fairfield, the Mountain Hawks will look to stay unbeaten away from home when they head to Rhode Island to face the Rams in a 4:30 p.m. Saturday showdown. It will be just the third ever meeting between the two programs, with each school claiming a victory.

In its most recent game, Lehigh claimed a 73-67 win over the Stags to remain unbeaten against Fairfield. The win over the Stags was Lehigh's second victory over a MAAC team this season and second road win.

Sophomore Kerry Kinek led the way once again for the Mountain Hawks, this time tallying 21 points and seven rebounds. It marked her fourth 20-plus point game this season. Freshman Lexi Martins sunk two go-ahead baskets when the score was tied to help lift the Mountain Hawks past the Stags.

Junior Sarah Williams notched 11 points, while Martins added nine. Junior Katie O'Reilly and sophomore Amina Affini each added seven. The Mountain Hawks finished the game shooting 44.1 (26-of-59) percent from the field and 50.0 percent (6-of-12) from three-point range. Lehigh out-rebounded the Stags 43-38.

Rhode Island will be searching for its first win of the season when Lehigh enters the Ryan Center on Saturday afternoon. The Rams are 0-4 after dropping games to Delaware, Central Connecticut, Boston University and Northeastern.

In its most recent game, Rhode Island held a six-point lead with just under eight minutes to go, but was unable to secure Rhody's first win of the season in a 64-59 loss to Northeastern Wednesday. Northeastern finished the game on an 18-5 run over the final seven minutes.

Rams sophomore Samantha Tabakman had her best game of the season in the loss to Northeastern, finishing with 21 points and seven rebounds. She had six points and ten rebounds combined in the first three games of the season.

Tayra Melendez leads the Rams with an average of 13.8 points per game, followed by Tabakman with 6.8. Sydney Lewis is the team's leading rebounder, averaging 5.0 per game, followed by Kerry Wallack with 4.8.

The Mountain Hawks and the Rams will meet for just the third time in Saturday's 4:30 p.m. contest. The short all-time series is tied 1-1 as each team has taken a meeting.

The Mountain Hawks used a second-half 11-0 run to defeat the Rams, 67-56, and claim Lehigh's fifth straight win in the most recent meeting between the squads. Four Mountain Hawks scored in double-figures en route to the victory, led by Alexa Williams with 13 points.

Lehigh finished the game shooting 36 percent from the field including 6-for-23 from behind the arc while URI shot 45 percent and 4-for-8 from three. The Mountain Hawks were strong defensively, forcing 24 turnovers, 13 of which came from steals. Lehigh finished with a season-low 13 turnovers while 18 of Lehigh's 20 baskets were assisted, led by six from Hilary Weaver.

Following the game with the Rams, the Mountain Hawks will hit the road once against to take on Big Ten foe Ohio State in Columbus on Thanksgiving Eve.
