Lehigh begins three-game road stretch at Fairfield Thursday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- The Lehigh women's basketball team aims to remain unbeaten against the Stags when the Mountain Hawks head to Fairfield on Thursday night. The game will serve as Fairfield's home opener and tipoff is set for 7 p.m. Thursday will begin a three-game road stretch for the Mountain Hawks as Lehigh travels to Rhode Island on Saturday and Ohio State the following Wednesday.

In their most recent game, five Mountain Hawks recorded new season or career highs in scoring as Lehigh defeated Mount St. Mary's 95-67 at Stabler Arena on Tuesday night. Lehigh's 95 points were the second-highest single game total in school history, trailing only a 103 point effort that came in the 1976-77 season.

Lehigh finished the game 31-of-60 from the floor for a 51.7% field goal percentage, marking the first time that the Mountain Hawks have shot 50 percent or better since March 1, 2012 when Lehigh shot 50 percent against Bucknell in a Patriot League quarterfinal game. The Mountain Hawks also impressed from three-point range, shooting 7-for-13 (53.8 percent). Lehigh picked up a season-high 53 rebounds, 20 assists, 11 blocks, and 31 made field goals.

Lehigh held the Stags to just 12 second-half points in the most recent meeting between the two schools on Dec. 6, 2012. The Mountain Hawks rallied to grab a 47-42 win and hand Fairfield its second loss of the season.

The Stags won their first two games, but lost their most recent contest to St. Bonaventure 74-59 to drop their first game of the season. Fairfield started the season on a high note by beating UAB and Texas A&M Corpus Christi at the Islander Classic to capture the tournament title.

In Fairfield's first loss of the season, St. Bonaventure shot 59.1 percent from the floor while Fairfield shot 46.8 percent. The Bonnies out-rebounded the Stags, 29-18. Senior Katie Cizynski and sophomore Kristin Schatzlein each posted 11 points in the Fairfield loss. Cizynski added five rebounds while Schatzlein dished out four assists and went 4-for-8 from the field and 3-for-6 from long range.

Cizynski leads the team so far this season with 14.3 points and 5.7 rebounds per game, followed by junior Alexys Vazquez with 10.7 points per game.
